How vain are you?

Oh Melissa - I have the grandfather eyebrows too. I was blessed as well with dark excessive eyebrows that my DM would not let me pluck. Got the nerve to do some finally when in college and she was not pleased. Still very dark but getting gray patches and those longuns. I too trim them with fine embroidery scissors. And the chin/neck hairs oh my. I could be the bearded lady in the circus. I've asked if that's a side effect of AIs; makes sense that now making androgens instead of estrogens. I can see the black ones, but the white/gray ones hide and sometimes get very long b4 I finally find them. I finally have the mustache under control some with regular plucking and it's looking some better. Wish I could say the same for the chin.
This was a yahoo trending story. Not vouching for it - just thought it was interesting with your bread discussions. Momine - I have seen that bread you mentioned a while back at World Market-Cost Plus. How the heck can they get bread to stay that long without molding?
-
My brows have grown very thin and I have to fill them in. However, nose hairs and mole hairs? What the HELL is THAT???
-
"by the hairs on my chinny chin chin" - yup, it's the gray blond ones ya gotta put the magnifying glass on the south facing window sill every few weeks - and VOILA, there they are!! giggle, giggle, giggle.....if they started off prickly like the moustache ones, you could feel'em, but naw, ya gotta SEE them in vurry, vurry bright light DAYLIGHT....don't wanna scare anybody, but if you haven't YET looked into a magnifying mirror on a window sill facing SOUTH, oh, my - what you're missing
-
BTW - tmi, but nose hairs - ya gotta get this little scissors with BLUNT ends, or ya could really cut yerself up there ;-) Do you think they made them just for us????? Maybe we should ask larry?
-
Oh, geez, ROTFLMAO!!
-
ya don't think he'd know? maybe if we rubbed rosemary leaves on our chins? huh? eh, what, can't hear'ya???

Okay so this is how vain I am, at least at the moment:
What is everyone doing to maintain a tan? I am thinking about getting a spray tan? I know I can't do cancer in a box anymore, but I really hate laying out (and yes I am aware that I should feel blessed I even have that option in the middle of January). I am just worried it will look fake. Has anyone had one?
And no I am not remotely worried about the very fake looking boobs I am about to have done in four weeks. Yup, that's right, my priorities are totally in order.

Sparklekat, boy do I miss using the "Cancer in a box" the tan was fabulous! I got on to the slow build, daily, self tanners. Apply just like a body moisturizer after your shower, and in a few days you have a tan. They look especially good if you get a bit of a base of natural tan and build on that.
Use exfoliating gloves, or body scrub to keep it maintained. I love St Tropez, but there is also a great Aussie made organic one called Eco Tan that I am using at the moment. I have girlfriends who swear by the supermarket brands.
I bought a Luminess spray tan kit on Deals of the Day site a while ago, but haven't played around with it yet. It came with a an airbrush and small compressor. It works just like the airbrush makeup, but I imagine could take a while if you wanted to do a whole body tan. great if you just want to do small areas.
Spray tans are great, but can get pricey if you are doing them each week.
Good luck with the new boobs!
-
I don't so much mind doing spray tans sporadically because I usually wear pants or black tights if I am at work. However; when I am going out somewhere fancy (or going to vegas for the weekend) and I want to wear something a little more racy then I like to be tan. Or wearing a bikini, you know? I worry that I am just not that dedicated to do the self tanners. In my land of self diagnosis that's why i got breast cancer in the first place because I suck at remembering to take my birth control! I don't know how I am going to handle having 10 years of tamoxifen. I think I am going to have to write a sign on the bottle that says "Chemotherapy=No Social Life" and then maybe that will be enough of a motivator.

Momine – it’s definitely the way wheat is grown that has
caused the huge rise in wheat-related symptoms. In this country, at least,
wheat has been genetically engineered to produce more, in a shorter amount of
time, with less water, in order to result in a larger crop and more profits for
the grower. The scientific changes were amazing for the wheat production itself,
but the problem was that no studies were ever done to investigate what they
would do to the human body. Now, unfortunately, we’re finding out. The good
news is that there is a wealth of legitimate studies that prove removing gluten
from the diet has beneficial results on a variety of conditions. In other
words, it’s not just a fad.MelissaDallas – Your mom is a Master
Genealogist? I’m so envious! I love doing my Genealogy research, and I feel
like I find a hidden treasure when I discover a long-lost relative after months
of searching. But I have trouble organizing everything, and sifting out
erroneous info that gets passed on through other Family Trees.Sunflowers – I lasted a full year on Arimidex before my MO
took me off of it and gave me a 2 month drug holiday. My SEs disappeared. Then
she put me on Femara, and while Femara is actually stronger than Arimidex, it
has fewer documented SEs – only one page as opposed to two pages for Arimidex! I've been on Femara for three months. I just started Acupuncture two weeks ago… I am seeing a Traditional Chinese
Medicine practitioner, and I like it. I asked her to teach me, not just treat
me. I also get Myofascial Release
massages… wonderful! Oh, I got some GF soy sauce yesterday, but I STILL
miss licorice!!! -
Wyo – if your son has celiac, what is it that makes it
impossible for him to be completely GF? Are his
symptoms very serious? Is the diabetes a factor? I have several friends with celiac... both of them are SO sensitive, they are extremely susceptible to any cross-contamination. That part is a lot of work for them and their families.Bren58 – I agree… just going GF is not that hard. But I sure
would like to find some GF bread that is soft, light, doughy, and chewy. I just
ordered a new book on baking GF bread,
and the author promises that these new recipes are much better than the bricks
you find on the shelves in the store. My niece says she'll help me - she's GF and an awesome baker.Selena – Arimidex made my nose hairs fall out!!!
Luvmygoats – that recipe looks yummy, and I could see it
toasted and slathered with butter. But with mayo, bacon, lettuce, and tomato?
Not so much…LOL!!!Sparklekat – Like ariom, I use the self –tanner lotion, or
spray-on tan in a can, usually for my legs, as I can’t do a very even cover
anywhere else. I thought about getting a “Dancing With The Stars” type spray
tan, but it would be just my luck to be allergic to it and have to head off to
the ER for treatment. If you do it, let us know how it goes! -
Will do, Blessings! I may go tomorrow if my Dad bails on my other plans. I wanted him to drive up the coast with me to take pictures since it will be so nice outside, but he's going through a depression (partly bc of my cancer and partly bc of a divorce with my step-mom). He said to me today "Why do you take on so many projects when you already have your cancer stuff!?" and I'm going, "Geeeez how much of my life do you think I should allow breast cancer to consume!?"
-
Have any of you gone to a salon that does the self-tan for you? There's one close to me I'm tempted to try. You stand buck naked under a giant spray can on the ceiling.
-
You crack me up Blessings! I know exactly what you mean about possibly being allergic and ending up in the ER.
I have done that!
I bought a new body cream that was supposed to get rid of cellulite. As you've probably guessed, I am the ultimate consumer. I have to try everything. I put it on and went to bed. I woke in the middle of the night with hives that just got worse and worse till I was covered in them. I had to go to the local Hospital where I knew the ER Doctor. He just shook his head and said "Really...cellulite?" a few days of massive dose cortisone did the trick!
-
@ Yorkie, see I feel like that would be a great option for my little bald self right now! I don't know if i'd like to do it if I had hair because I'm mostly worried about how it would look on my face!
-
How did I just discover this thread now? If you all don't mind, I'll add my two cents. I am so vain I walked around, blind as a bat because I hated glasses, for years and years (although I was lucky to find some comfortable contacts) that is until lasik eye surgery. Now I see perfectly and I don't need glasses or contacts. What a wonderful discovery. I'm also in the I-can't-go-out-without-make-up category. I feel naked without it. When I lost my eyelashes and eyebrows to chemo, I wore fake eyelashes until I had enough new growth to get Minky's. What a relief to have long thick lashes again.
I love a good mani and pedi but to maintain them properly it requires quite a time commitment so I usually only splurge when I have a function or event to go to, or extended travel. So yes, put me in the vain category, but I love it.
-
Ariom, aren't hives miserable?
When I was in my late twenties I started frequently getting them. I'd get this weird "uh oh" sensation, then flush & break out and itch intensely, even inside my ears. I was also getting hoarse and some swelling so was warned on one of my trips to get steroid and benadryl shots that it was anaphylactic. I could not figure out what was going on because I was not eating or using anything new. Went & got allergy tested & found out I am allergic to peanuts. I had never had a problem with them before but had started eating a tablespoon of peanut butter on a graham cracker for breakfast every day, so the frequent exposure tipped the balance. I wish I'd known so I could have eaten a bag of Reese's cups before my farewell to them!
-
Luvmygoats, I'll volunteer to make & try the bread. I think it looks interesting and I think I have everything but the psyllium. Heck, I should get the psyllium anyway and see if it helps my cholesterol.
-
Sparklekat, lol! That's why God invented razors, lazers and tweezers!
AmyQ, once you've known vain, there's no going back!
-
Tinted Moisturizers. Can't live without them. I have very dry skin, so I use Bobbi Brown spf25 Tinted Moisturizing Balm. And the cream rouge. Medium in winter, Medium/Dark in summer.
I also like the Guerlain compact one - also the one they make ( meteor?) of little powdery balls of different colors - gotta use a BIGBIGBIG fluffy brush.
I know alot of the makeup lines now make a "natural mineral" powdery tanner/bronzer - but I'm too heavy handed with it. A little goes a HUGE LONG way with Bare Essentials.
-
MellissaDallas, I had the same thing from a reaction to an antibiotic, so can't take Sulfa any more.
I also had a bad gastro virus a few years ago, and the next day I came out all over with hives again. Back to the ER, only to find that a body covered in hives can come, after a viral or bacterial infection..who'd have known?
I can't believe how many people are allergic to peanuts, but glad you didn't have the Peanut Butter Cup it may have been your last!
I went through a really bad food allergy period in the 80's, couldn't eat wheat or dairy, both my favorite foods. I was told it is usually the things you love, and eat the most, that you're allergic to. Fortunately, no hives, just debilitating Migraines and a weird sensation that felt like I was falling backwards. Stopped eating both of these and went on an elimination diet. My already slim weight plummeted to a terrible low. It took ages to regain the weight, but I never looked back after eliminating those foods.
-
I can live without the peanuts & candy but it means no Chinese or other Asian foods. Sure do miss that.
-
Here's a terrific cheapie. Got rave reviews in one of the Choice awards in a fashion magazines. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser. Best concealer I've ever used.
-
Oh Wow, I would really miss the Asian foods, and satay sauce. I love that.
I haven't tried the Maybelline, will take a look at that.
I have been using YBF Neutralizing Creme for a while now. I can't believe how many of the cheaper brands have really great products in their ranges these days. Probably due to the fact that a lot of the high end Houses have bought out the smaller ones and a lot of the products are the same, just re- branded.
-
that's why Loreal mascara is so good. They are owned by Lancome.
-
Trader Joes makes a GREAT organic tamara sauce - no wheat
YES, I do miss licorice - and even eat it sometimes ;-)))
Ariom - I am allergic to all sulfa based antibiotics, also any dried fruit that has sulfur added...
-
I love black licorice. Really miss the Switzers bars of it that I bought as a kid. We really are an odd group. Don't most people hate licorice?
-
I think I'm turning my dog into a vain little thing....she has an appointment tomorrow for a mani, pedi, cut and blow dry. She seems to "strut" when she leaves the doggie salon. I swear she is showing off!
-
The female Belgian Sheepdog I had knew she was gorgeous. She was a slut too. If a man sat on the sofa she'd stand up with her front feet on either side of his knees so she was face to face with him, then tilt her head down & look up through her eyelashes at him. Of course she also humped the cat and male dog...
-
I have never had a tan and don't mind being pale.
Melissa, my boy dog is the big slut around here, always looking for attention and definitely preferring women.
