8 weeks post left mastectomy; right diagnostic mammo tomorrow

Technically I am 8 weeks post op tomorrow for multifocal DCIS. I posted the other day about breast pain and a possible cyst. Saw my GYN today for my annual and I fessed up about the pain and the lump. He did a very quick breast exam and didn't feel anything and I was relieved. But then he asked me to find it and show him. So I did and he got a funny look on his face and said he could feel it, too and he moved on. At the end of then exam he told me he wanted to order a diagnostic mammo with possible Ultrasound. I had an expansion appointment afterwards so I went to that. I told my plastic surgeon and he got very serious and reassuring at the same time. He said he wanted whatever the h311 it is out of me. He could feel it too. I guess it was not my imagination and paranoia. He told me what biopsies he was OK with because of my lift coming up and explained that I may even get sent back to my BS and she should call him if she wants an open biopsy. Otherwise he said if its a fibroadenoma he will remove it with my lift. It just can't be anything I had a normal mammo and MRI on the right in October. That's just too quick for it to be bad. Ugh. I hate being special.

    KimberlyAnn0218 - But you are special!  We all are in our own way.  ;-)  So sorry you're having this trouble, but it sounds as though you're in very good hands and the GYN and PS are covering all the bases as far as options for you.  Just keep your chin up and please let us know how things turn out.  No matter what, you can do this!

    Well, it's good news I guess :) Mammogram is completely normal. Ultrasound was completely normal. By palpation the lump is 6 CM. The Ultrasound tech could feel it and the radiologist could feel it. He called it a palpable abnormality with no imaging correlate. He really talked thorough the "what next"--can't do a image guided biopsy because the images are all fine, could send me back to my BS for removal by palpation, or he was considering another MRI because I am "so young" (still loving that :).  did mention that my PS said if nothing was done with it he could remove it during my exchange surgery/breast lift. The radiologist thought that was a fabulous idea to have it removed at that time and see what the pathology was. He has no idea why it is painful because the time in my cycle not high breast tenderness time. He said on mammogram and ultrasound is looks like normal  glandular tissue.  He thinks I am a candidate for some occasional MRI's throughout my lifetime. He thinks I would probably qualify using the algorithms but if not he was going to formally suggest I have some pattern of MRI in the future.

    KimberlyAnn0218 - So glad you're all right!  Removal during your exchange surgery / lift sounds like a good plan.  The fact that the radiologist took so much time and went into great detail about the lump is reassuring.  And as to the 'you're so young'; it beats the heck out of 'but you're older, why would it matter'!  ;-)  Hope all goes well for you!
