Spring 2013 Rads

Hi Ladies....had a great weekend but not so great news today! My markers/lines were not matching up to their liking so they want to do another Sim CT scan tomorrow =( That means delaying treatment and I am on a time crunch with my job!! Any one else have this issue??
-
CLYDAY - glad your weekend was great!
Not sure about the markings, but you need for them to be right on!
My rad team cross checked weekly and during boosts it seemed like daily...did not miss a day just more time.
I would discuss time crunch with RO. Request they work you in later in the day so you do not miss a zap! They may just do it all at your usual time slot...arrive a bit early to give them the benefit.
How's your wait room...mix group...small/large...I had just 1 man there each day...me gown on top...him pants on bottom...saving the girls&boys! Very humbling:)
Sending positive thoughts...stay on schedule...happy girl!
(((Hugs)))
Cindy -
CLYDAY, I didn't have that. Does it delay you by the one day of the scan or more than that? I agree with Cindy about telling them about the time crunch. Maybe they can tinker with the schedule somehow. If not, your work will just have to hang in there (I say that knowing nothing about the nature or your work or the time crunch, sorry!). You must be getting close to done, no?
-
Okay! After a LONG day today everything got worked out! I was able to have my treatment today and will bet a double Zap one time this week. Skin is getting red and sore
. My Rad Onc is recommending Glucan Pro 3000 which is pretty pricey!! $80+...I mean I will get it if it is necessary but money is tight for me right now! I am using organic alo...emu oil at night...and Lindi skin cooling roll which is amazing! It really sooths the skin! I will be done with RADS July 11th if all stays on track!! Hope everyone is having a good week...
-
CLYDAY - yippee! Everything worked out:). On schedule, relief.
Have you asked about RX for 2.5% hydrocortisone to use with emu oil.
No lube stuff on girl going into rads or under stickers? Just thinking.
And are you able to free boob as much as possible so nothing touches and sticks to the girl.
Does your clinic have the glucan pro 3000 or must you buy online. Did the other xxx who just finished there use? Just wondering why ro recommends...does ro have a sample! ask if there is another combo that would work as well. But the skin/girl is worth whatever will spare her and keep her calm. Ask ask ask.
Sending calm healing thoughts...July 11 is so close freedom!
(((Hugs)))
Cindy -
Thanks Cindy! Yes I am free boobing and trying to stay in my room where I can as much as possible. I will ask about the cream tomorrow and if there is any alternative...she said over all my skin looks pretty good....just want it to stay that way....are the boosts not as severe?? I think I am getting 28 regular and 5 boosts....I have been taking your advice and shower right before my treatment....the only thing good about being up here alone is my only responsibility is going to treatment and taking care of my skin!! Thank you for keeping in touch with me so often!! (HuGs) right back!!

CLYDAY - I pm the lady who just finished rads at your clinic to see if she had any input.
Rad cream is $$$ so always ask for samples and alternatives...but protect the girl at all costs.
The boosts are much shorter and easier...just aimed at tumor bed....so the girl gets a break. I asked rad techs to outline and I took a pic to ensure a little extra on those areas.
Hang in there...hard to be so far from home...just hanging out(free boobing) all day:(
Glad last week was fun with your little man:)
Watch a video of him or FaceTime with your guy...soon...yes very soon:)
(((Hugs)))
Cindy -
CLYDAY - yippee it's July! You are in the home stretch! Go rad warrior! So are you on the last 2 full? Getting ready for 5 boosts?
10- zap me 10, zap me softly
8 - down to 8 gr8t:)
7 - 7th heaven girls almost done
6 - 6 shades of pink
5 - give me a Kickin bc in butt hi 5!
4 - jump 4 joy
3 - no f3ar!
2 - 2 good 2 be true:)
1 - it's a 1- der ful life! Ooo whoo!
Sending happy thoughts for skin, body, mind, and spirit!
You are doing great!

Hi Cindy!! This is my last week before boost and my skin is peeling and hurting =( I can tell the difference while I am here free boobing alone then at home with even just loose clothing! Ugh..I pray it doesn't get much worse. The techs said my skin looks a lot better than most...are the Boosts not as bad?? So glad I get a break for the 4th and don't have to come back till Monday!! Two more days....
-
Boosts are targeted, so the rest of your skin gets to start healing (from the inside first) while the boost area gets some extra zaps. I was worried about that but it didn't go too badly, and then it was over in a quick week. So sorry you're peeling and hurting. It's all part of moving forward though CLYDAY! Counting down!
-
Thanks! I just hope it is not much worse...I see the DR tomorrow so maybe she will give me something to help with pain.
-
CLYDAY - hang in there warrior! Almost done. Sorry your skin is hurting
Ask RO for RX to help your girl. Boosts give the girl a break. Focus will be on the tumor bed.
Boosts are shorter...have them use sharpie to mark boost area then you can add exta moisturizing relief on that area.
Keep hydrated and free boobing as much as possible...air awe!
Clothing hurts and irritates the skin...hopefully you can find time to bare.
Again Hydrate, eat exta protein, carbs, and rest...be kind to yourself!
Give your body what it needs to rebuild... And ask RO or nurse to check skin before you head home for the holiday! Yes, recheck...no surprises.
You got this and we're in your pocket

Well,I graduated from rads today. When i went to a massage therapist, she reminded me to continue putting on the lotions, oils, aloe(whatever we all use) for 2 months post radiation. She said she had a client who stopped on her last day and a week later she broke out in some nasty blisters. She mentioned that she can feel the "heat" from radiation for almost 2 years! My skin is reddened, but not blistery and I'll continue taking care........wishing all of you wellness.
-
Way to go, Patti!!
-
CONGRATULATIONS Patti! You did it! Thank you for the advice. Heat from rads for two years--oh my! I'm two months post-rads today, I just realized. My radiated skin looks perfectly fine, but it's still dry to the touch, seems not to sweat at all, and it's frequently itchy. I lube it with aloe gel after every shower and with Aquaphor at night when I can stand the goopiness. I've had lots of PT for the arm, incisions, and shoulder, and that has helped. The ongoing program is to stretch my arm straight out to the side, lying down, and then at a 45-degree angle up to the side, until it doesn't feel stretchy and sore, a couple times each day. For extra credit, I do these stretches off the edge of the bed and put something with a little weight, like a roll of pennies, in my hand, just to get it to stretch backwards a little farther, behind the plane of my back. I'm very glad for all the PT. I wasn't on the verge of developing lymphedema, but I was concerned about it, and now I feel fortified with info and tactics to fend it off, I hope.
-
Yippee! Patti
Happy Dancing for you...twist and shout...Yippee!
Yes, take good care of your skin for months! Still putting neosporin or hydrocortisone with emu oil on girl...keeps her happy. Se still looks a bit angry wen she's been clothed for long periods of time...
Celebrate brave rad warrior! You zapped it! Ooo who))
-
CLYDAY - a long weekend and now the final...boosts! Your girl had a break...hopefully your skin is rested and ready for the last charge.
Give the little man a hug knowing that you will be done oh so soon! Life is worth fighting for each precious moment...zip zap laser tap warrior...you've done well
Got my dancing she's ready...
(((Hugs)))
Cindy -
Thank you Cindy!! I had a great weeking and tried to keep girl aired out as much as possible. I am dark in some areas and pink in others...a little bit of itching and very minimal pain. So looking forward to being done! Did your skin get worse after? Hope you have a great week also! And keep fighting everyone!!

Cindy -
Congrats CLYDAY!!! You are awesome! My skin did not get worse, maybe a tad itchier but not uglier. Has the part outside the boost changed much since you started the boost? That might be a good gauge of what the boost area will do next. Enjoy your last day! I got a kazoo concert--wonder what your sendoff will be!?!
-
Ooo who ! YIPPEE ! CLYDAY
Happy Dance ! Twist&shout You Did It... Done!
Jump off that table and ring that bell! Wave your Rad Cert
Now dance your way home...:)
Keep lubing the girl over the next few weeks...soon she will be peaches and cream and ready for your exchange!
You've come along ways brave warrior...enjoy your summer!
(((Hugs)))
Cindy -
Hooray for big milestones CLYDAY!!! Hope you have a great homecoming and a speedy recovery!
-
Early stage, so no chemo necessary; but will of course need radiation and then tamoxifen for 5 years. My lumpectomy was 1/6/14. I met w/2 radiology oncos this week; 1 said standard radiation for 5-7 weeks; another said 4 weeks but with a littler higher dosage (believe it's called hypo-fractional). Has anyone had this shorter term radiation?
-
BCded - welcome and congrats on lx&snd!
Many different protocols...some short 4 weeks others 28 whole and then 5 boosts. This site discusses so read and then ask questions. Also, check out the Winter Rads 2913-2014.
My RO felt most comfortable with less greys each zap, but longer protocol. She said her patients skin tolerated better. We did discuss options ...so ask. Several here did the shorter Canadian rad and April did the 1 week twice a day...so ask.
You've got some time to heal...so read up, ask questions on the threads, then determine which RO will best work with you in the course if tx you desire. It's doable...rads is more mental...jumping on the table each day. Is there 1 closer to work? Better times? Just like the staff facility better? Ask and visit then follow your heart...you will know what is best for you.
(((Hugs)))

I had the 4 week treatment on right breast in 2013 and 6 week treatment on left breast in 2010. There didn't seem to be a big difference in skin reaction. The shorter time was better for work.
-
Yippee! Celebrating a year post - Rads! Peaches and cream!
Hope everyone has had a good year! Here's to more time post ...
Even the HT has been doable:).
Here's to us!
-
I'm at the end of my second week of the 3 week protocol. A few side effects starting, in particular, I feel a tightness in my chest, almost like the feeling you get a day before a bad chest cold. Not coughing, but I haven't really read that this is a common side effect, wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
Shelley
-
Hi Shelly - congrats 2/3 done! Ask your rad team when you go in tomorrow. Stay hydrated and keep the moisturizing...free boobing when possible! Let us know is the tightness. Best Wishes laser tag warrior.
-
Super! Congrats!
