Coming up on my 4 year cancerversary this Nov 30th. Highly triple positive, and somehow I never thought I'd get this far with being 100% ER+, 50% PR+, and HER2+++. Still dealing with heavy fatigue, but that's ok, so glad to have made it here! Isn't herceptin incrdible?!

3 years and 4 months.  I feel as good as I felt before BC unless I think about it.  Been on Anastrazole 2-1/2 years now with some arthritis but I got through any other issues within the first year.  I'm so grateful to my BS and ONC for their care.  I'm still considered high risk but I can live with that (pun intended).  My ONC did tell me last year that my C can come back anytime after I asked her if I was now safer at 3'years.  I like to not think about that and prefer to listen to some of these boards where their ONCs think we are safer at this point.  I don't come on here often but wanted everyone to know there is a good future ahead.

Fitz33 next time you talk to your onc ask her if the likelihood goes down as the years progress. Sure being hormone positive they will always consider us NED and not cured until maybe 25 years pass but I bet the risk goes down over time.

BTW I'm almost3.5 years NED. No nodes but 5.5 IDC (6.5cm tumor with 1cm DCIS). I assume it's not coming back.

lago - have you found any good source/s relating to recurrence for triple positives?  My MO and BS felt that my chance of recurrence, with cautious optimism, decreased quite a bit at 3 years (after diagnosis), in fact my BS said he really hadn't expected me to be there, NED, at my 3 year check up, he also said that in his experience people with my type/size/involvement/etc.... if they make it to this point they don't get recurrences (he's been doing this for about 40 years now).  But then being strongly HR/PR positive has a different recurrence rate (I met some women recently who had recurrences 20-25 years out).  I feel I'm in some sort of limbo land, and that I'm always waiting for the other foot to drop.  The more I research it seems, the less I know, just makes me more unsure? I think that "they" don't really know, and that herceptin hasn't been in the game for long enough for them to know.  I love it when I see the HER2 ladies that are way out and still hail and hearty!

LindaKR My understanding from what I have read and what my onc told me is highest risk of recurrence is in the first 2 or 3 years… then drops significantly. I have also read that many of those late recurrences for hormone positive are mostly with lower grade (less aggressive) see link below. When you think about that it makes sense. Chemo works well on fast growing cells. Since the slower cells grow slower or maybe lay dormant (like a virus) maybe that's why it comes back years/decades later. But in general most recurrences happen in the first 5 years.

This is an old article so I don't know if any follow up studies have been done.

Thanks Lago, that's all I had been able to find too, so I guess I'm in the, cautiously/optimistic, clear then, oh yeah, as long as I keep taking the evil one for 5, wait 10 (according to my last MO visit) years!   You gotta love this new normal!

LindaKR I've been posting my infamous speeches a lot these past few weeks. This time for you:

    seat belt speech:

You don't assume you will get into a car accident every time you
get in your car. You do put on your seat belt and drive carefully. Same
with breast cancer. Eat right, maintain a healthy weight, exercise,
and take your hormone therapy (if prescribed). No reason to think you
are going to get mets until you actually have a symptom.

    shit happens speech:

Some people win the lottery and become millionaires but do you
really think that's going to happen to you? Shit happens. Sometimes
good shit, sometimes bad shit, but most of the time shit doesn't
happen. Don't assume shit is going to happen to you.

I was just 6 years out!  Still going and as far as I know I am clear.  Doctor has left me on arimidex for 10 years since she thinks it is working.

I just passed my 3 years NED anniversary on January 13.  When I was diagnosed, I was so scared that I would not make it to this point.

I'm doing well, struggling with losing weight, work full-time + and have 4 minor kids.

    Happy, healthy and thankful.  :)

I'm not even close having been diagnosed only a few months ago but seeing this thread and it successes make me feel great!

My MO did say that the majority of reoccurrences are within 2-3 years of the initial diagnosis and that the further away you get with NED the less risk of reoccurence   He is the chief MO at my hospital

    Congrats to all of you!!!

had my 4 year with the BS on Tuesday, he said he doesn't need to see me again, just watch/feel for any new bumps, lumps, etc... But doesn't expect me to find any, and only call him if I do. I feels pretty confident I won't have a recurrence now, he's kind of a negative Nell, so this is cautious optimism, still wants me to see my MO annually and my PCP at least twice a year, but.....💃💃💃💃👏👏👏🎉🎇🎆
