Lump in non cancer breast
Hi,
Recently I have found a lump in my non cancer side breast, I went for a mammogram and an US and neither showed anything. The technician's all can feel the lump (although they said they felt it was nothing to worry about), but I'm worried about what kind of lump is there but doesn't show up anywhere?
Do you think there is anything further that I need to do.

-
can you request an MRI?

Hi Melissa,
Unfortunately I don't think they will agree to an MRI, since they don't see anything they don't feel any need to do anything further.

I am going through the same thing you are. I had a bilat mastectomy in 2009. There is a lump on my right breast which was the non-cancer side. The radiologist said it was not a mass and it is subcutaneous. Waiting on my breast surgeon to call me back. I am glad it isn't a mass but still feel uneasy that I feel a lump. I am hoping my breast surgeon decides to do more tests or biopsy it but I have a feeling he is just going to tell me to keep an eye on it.

I wonder if the technician can really tell by feeling the lump whether it is something to worry about?
I know that a lump shouldn't be there, but I don't know how you can tell which lump should be ignored.

Hi shelloz1 - I really don't want to frighten you but a lump / raised area appeared in the opposite breast to my original cancer. I detected it myself (it was painful like my previous BC) and after monitoring it for a month or so I realised that it was growing bigger. I went for mammogram and ultrasound which was negative. They did a biopsy ONLY because I had a previous history of BC. It turned out to be high grade cancer - they had no way of knowing how extensive it was because it was invisible to their scans. So, I had a bilateral mastectomy and they found 4cm of grade 3 DCIS (so fortunately no chemo the second time around). Mammograms miss 20% of cancers - especially if you have dense breast tissue. I caution you to monitor this lump. If you note any changes get straight back to your doctor and ask for a biopsy to 'put your mind at rest'. Hope this gets sorted soon for you X.
