Patty no one would miss this weather it has been horrendous, even our dog who is a good size had her parts in the snow and it was hard for him to go, We put my cat out for a minute (she's not an outside cat) and she didn't move in the snow, brought her in right away. There is still plenty of snow.

Would love to come play in the snow for the weekend - I still have family there.  But then I wanna get home out of the snow lol.  I dnk it's been so very cold here this year. Got me looking for scarves and snow suits  and hot choc. lol thinking warm thoughts for you and your pets.

Camille, that's pretty funny. I wonder what kind of tests he would have run to rule out Necrophilia?

That is so funny that picture of the cat.. this is my Christmas face! I remember taking a walk one day and commenting on this woman's cat. She was gardening and this HUGE monstrously enormous black and white cat with double toes was watching her as she worked. I said "Wow that's the biggest cat I ever saw, is he friendly?" She replied, " His name is "Mother".. I meekly inquired, " short for anything?" She laughed and said "yes... and he's not friendly.." Bet there isn't a mole in their yard!

Hi, Patty, yes I grew up in Westville! I've been in Florida for 40 years, and I definitely prefer the warm weather. I do miss driving for long stretches, looking at farmland, though. My mom is in Danville and my sister is in Catlin, so I still go back pretty often.

Southern IL ladies, I grew up south of Danville in farm country, grandfather was a farmer, and I do miss the corn, beans, and the "old" way of raising livestock. Much different than the industrialized approach used now. Were any of you in 4H? One of my oldest friends came to visit me last spring and brought photos of her family and 4H projects from the 60s and 70s - we spent hours reminiscing and laughing and just being grateful that we had the opportunities to grow up when and where we did. We were all "poor" compared many of our city friends, didn't have shopping trips to the city, etc., but we had so much fun and so much freedom to "be kids" that I don't see happening for my nieces and nephews.

Today I met with my attorney to do a little "tweaking" on my will, and I made some comment about maybe I would just spend it all and let the relatives earn their money the way I did mine: work and save and not go into debt for the latest styles and fads. He laughed and said that was a good idea, and in fact,  travel, spend it all, write a couple of bad checks at the end, just make sure one of them was not for him!

Linda, I was in 4-H in elementary school. We learned cooking, and I was the recorder for our meetings. That was in the late 50's. I had a lot of fun. I was born in Hume at my grandparents' house. That's where my mom grew up. My grandpa was a farmer, of course. I do miss the Midwest sometimes.

Mary and Linda. - also reminds me of detassling corn , walking beans etc.   my 1 st babysitting job at 12 there was a family with 5 small children and their cows got out.  Hillarious.     Me chasing the cows holding a chain of hands for 5 small children.

I didn't detassle corn or walk beans, but my brother and husband did. It's always kind of strange to look back, isn't it? Kind of like we've lived more than one life. Have you ever been to Carbondale? I really loved it there in the late 60's. I had so much fun!

Well, I put my foot in my mouth at chemo today, but it was still funny - in a black humor kind of way. I went today for just a quick Zometa infusion - takes about 1/2 hour. They directed me to sit in one of the chairs in a certain row.  I had always thought the people sitting in that row were more sickly than the others in the infusion room as it was close to the nurse's desk. But as I walked down the row of chairs, I noticed that everyone in that row had just one or two small IV bags.  I said aloud to the gentleman across from me, "Oh, this must be where they put the people who won't be here very long". He started laughing, and I quickly tried to correct myself, and said "I mean, this must be the area for the short timers". He started laughing more, and he said "It's not getting any better". I agreed with him and told him I just need to shut my mouth. I think only he and one other woman heard me and they were both laughing, so I hope I didn't offend, but to me, it was funny.  Someone posted on the favorite quotes thread one by Jimmy Buffet. I think it was "if we don't laugh, we'll go crazy". True that!

And to the previous posters - I'm an Illinois girl too, and yes- the snow and the cold was horrendous. I would love to live somewhere with no snow! On the bright side: it's all melting now!!!

OMG I was in 4H too, but we lived in a suburb of Chicago so it was more baking and things like that. Geeze I still live in the same area, lots of rain today but still plenty of snow here.

Surfdreams that was adorable and u did have help removing u'r foot so that was good.

Geez, it's kind of like old home week with all the IL hometowns listed here. I have lived several places in IL, including Paris/Charleston area, Springfield, Bloomington/Normal, Havana, and have family in Litchfield, LOTS of friends in Chicago and suburbs and Peoria .... went to school for one year in Carbondale .... one of my best friends is from Ridge Farm .... nice review of geography!!!!

Surfdreams, am cracking up. You remind me of my mother's types of comments when she was in chemo. I am not so outgoing in person (I do much better online) and was grateful that the infusion center I go to has "private" rooms and I don't have to talk to anyone. However, my mother talks to EVERYONE, cracks jokes, entertains, and is so inclusive if there is anyone who seems to be lost or lonely. I admire that ability to just laugh much.

Old home week, for sure.  I went to school in Charleston for 2 years, then just 2 quarters in Carbondale (my favorite, but had to move for husband's job), then finished at SIU in Edwardsville.
