IDC ER+, also positive for BRCA1?

Hi everyone,

I am hoping to glean a bit of information.  My mom had IDC, ER+ before age 50 many years ago.  Her doctors never recommended testing for BRCA, in part because the type of cancer she had wasn't strongly associated with BRCA.  I don't know what other tumor characteristics, besides estrogen receptivity, they noted that made them think that.  My doctors are surprised now that she was not tested.

I am unaffected (yet) but chose to test for BRCA.  I am waiting for BRCA test results for myself right now.  I come from an ethnic group with relatively high prevalence of BRCA mutations, with founder mutations where 90-95% of BRCA mutations are in BRCA1 (BRCA2 is almost nonexistent where my family comes from).  I understand that something like 70% of BRCA1 cancers are ER-.  Has anyone here been ER+ IDC with a BRCA1 mutation?  If so, were there other notable tumor characteristics that made the tumors indicative of a BRCA mutation?

I am ER+ IDC.  No family history at time of diagnosis.  I was tested for BRCA due to my younger age at diagnosis.  Since my diagnosis, I have had another cousin come up with stage IV ovarian cancer.  She is having a BMX, prophylactic, this month.

I'm BRCA1 positive and ER+, multifocal/multicentric as well. I have family history from my father's side, grandmother and her two sisters with breast and ovarian cancer.

I'm BRCA2 positive and ER+. I learned of the BRCA2 result first (got tested due to family history and my father testing positive for BRCA2), which then led to testing for BC, dx, sx, and this ER+ pathology result.  Not sure if the BC had special characteristics related to BRCA. Good luck!
