Hi ladies, Happy 2014! This is my first post on this discussion board. I was dx with DCIS grade 2 in October 2013. I underwent a lumpectomy in November 2013. Doctor recommended radiation and tamoxifen but I have yet to start on those. I needed sometime to decide on whetther or not to have a BMX. After much thought and lots of research I have decided to go with a BMX with DIEP reconstruction. Do you know a good BS in DC/VA/MD area that you can recommend? Would appreciate any suggestions. Many thanks in a advance!
-
how about MIMI In sterling
-
maito-- welcome to this board! Have you decided on a breast surgeon yet? If you are thinking of BMX with immediate reconstruction, it's good to get a plastic surgeon that does the DIEP that works together with the breast surgeon. I had Dr. Venturi (his office is located near Tysons Corner, but can dig up a few other names if needed--PM me if you want more info.
Edith--are you referring to Mimi's Cafe in the Dulles Town Center shopping area?
-
Maito - Dr. Nahabedian at Georgetown is very good for DIEP - -he's one of the top two or three in the area. I used him for implants. He has done 600 implant surgeries and 1000 DIEP surgeries.
All - Sorry to miss you yesterday.
-
yes Mimi in the Dulles town center.or some were els in STERLING/Dulels I work on Sat but could get away if something is close...
-
Hi Cuetang, thanks for getting back to me. Yes, I have a breast surgeon that I feel comfortable with. However, the PS who she works with seems more comfortable doing implants than DIEP. I prefer PS whose area of expertise is DIEP, tram flaps etc. Since I have already had a lumpectomy with all DCIS removed, I was under the impression that I would only need a PS for the mastectomy/DIEP - wrong assumption I guess. I looked up Dr Venturi - he has very good reviews! I will PM you for more info.
-
Hi Placid44,
Its interesting that you mention Dr Nahabedian - I came across his name last night as I was researching PS in the area and was impressed when I read his profile and some of the articles he has written on DIEP. Do have the names of the other two top PS in the area? Kindly let me know - thanks in advance!
Maito
-
dr Venturi did my wife's DIEP. He was terrific to work with and we highly recommend him.
-
I've met with two PS's to do my DIEP. Dr. Venturi and Dr. Ariel Rad. I'm not sure which one I am going with yet. Does anybody have any experience with Dr. Rad? He used to be at Hopkins, he now has an office in McLean.
-
My surgeon, Dr. Elizabeth Feldman who is now at Reston Hospital, used to work in a team with Dr. Nahabedian. Not sure whether they still work together or not since he may not want to go out there. I know he has privileges at both Fairfax and Georgetown. At Fairfax, a surgeon call Coclovechhio (or something like that) is supposed to be good, and the head of breast surgery at Georgetown is good. If you are interested in either of those "combinations" with Nahabedian, I can look up the names. I was also referred to Nahabedian as "the best" in the area.
