Going a bit off topic here but it is a great present.... /Daily Kos says R. Limbaugh is off the air in Vero Bch. Fl and that means all his Fox cronies as well. Bye-bye.

Thanks so much everyone for your kind words and suggestions! You're the best!
Suzie .. Medicaid doesn't cover root canals ... only extractions or some other kind of oral surgery. Tim checked my smile and said it wouldn't look really bad. And he knows I'm fussy about taking care of my appearance .. hell ... I dress up and wear makeup just to go to walmart!
Libby .. I honestly don't know what's going to happen to this area economically. Ever since the furniture business moved to China the area has gone downhill. I was talking to a checkout lady the other day and she was saying how fortunate her family was as her adult children had been able to get good jobs in this area after college and stay close to family. Most of the folks who get a college degree move out of the area as soon as they can. You can really tell on the first of the month how hard hit this area is .. walmart is packed with folks who have needed foodstamps.
This is kind of neat ... while waiting for my Rx to be filled last night at Walgreen, I picked up a book off the shelf to look through. Can't remember the exact title, but it was something like "Women Heal Yourself Emotionally." Anyway, I started reading the book and had a little epiphany. The author was talking about "faulty thinking" as well as getting out of the "blame game." OMG ... I realized that my thinking the last few days, weeks and months had been so "faulty." It's not really about the glass being half full or half empty, but more about freeing yourself from the thoughts that bring you down and have you locked in sadness and futility. The lack of hope in our lives has a devastating effect on us. And I realized I had been "hope-less" for quite some time. In spite of the circumstances for so many in my area, we still have cause for hope. I felt like a huge weight had been lifted from me when I realized there was still hope for change.
Anyway... sorry I got so off track girlfriends!
hugs,
Bren

Bren: DO NOT apologize for anything! Reading that book was serendipity, and sort of the same thing happened to me today. I was driving home from a little shopping trip and listening to NPR. A Dr. Katz was the guest on The People's Pharmacy and he was talking about how we seem to measure the state of healthcare by the number of years lived. He said that instead of docs trying to "add years to a patient's life" they should instead be concentrating on "adding life to a patient's years". Well, that makes so much sense!
-
Bren, if we didn't have some "down" times, we would miss out on the wonderful ups!!!!!I think we likely all cycle through some of the less positive, less forward looking times. Mine don't ( silently praying it stays that way ) seem to last too long, but I think I climbed some major mountains quite some time ago and realized how vigilant I have to be. I still get into 'those' times, but because I'm generally watchful am able to choose how long to stay --- usually only long enough to make sure I'm on a good path for a fix. Don't know how I "learned" the recognition, but I don't believe in accidents, coincidences, fate, flukes etc. Every single thing that happens has some meaning. Sometimes the meaning is directly for you, and sometimes it is for someone around you.
Just saying....I don't see your finding that book, and then picking it up was a chance event. You were given what you needed, when you most needed it. Funny, I was going to say something of this ilk yesterday, but for some reason thought I'd let it go. Now I'm glad I did......you might have been looking for something and not recognized it so readily when you found it. Some of the help we get is subtle and likely easier seen if there are no advance warnings or notions.
Glad you are feeling much better. I'll go to work happy in a few minutes.

Bren - do NOT blame yourself, really. I had no idea Medicaid didn't cover root canal work - seems absurd, not wanting to help someone save a tooth? Goes on Enjoyful's list of Medicare StrangeThings.....thinking of E, hoping your spirits are getting better too.
Back to Bren - do you know about Time Banks. Not sure what it might be called in your area - Bartering, Time Banking. People organized to put in their services in exchange for others work too. No $ exchanged, TIME and the work expertise of each. Started by Edgar Kahn in Washington DC years ago - now in most of the USA. Local organizations. Know there is one near me, and also know a Dentist who is part of it.
I am in complete agreement, understanding with Jackie about the "timing" of events, things. Carl Jung coined the word "synchronicity" - interesting concept. I try to keep open to it, but it's SO HARD when going thru a really DIFFICULT time. Bren, you call it a "pity party" - some noted historical figures ( Winston Churchill) have called it "the Back Dog" - whatever, "dark night of the Soul", it's somehow humbling to know we ALL experience those times. I was talking with a friend yesterday, and we both shared how it seems to be so much easier, more natural to be GENTLE with someone else, than with ourselves, when we're in difficulty.
Complicated by PAIN, aaauuggghhhhh...TOOTH PAIN is one of the worst. Even the numbing gel you can buy at the drug store desont' seem to help. What is it about those silly little things, teeth, that makes them so disruptive? Anyhow - hope YOU are healing, and pain free and happier sooner than you can even imagine, book or no book.
COLD - and tomorrow it's supposed to rain, so ice, Wake me when it's SPRING!
-
I have had some great pity parties in my time. They are very cathartic.
-
pip57 - LOL. With you on that one too :-) BUT, it's sure a blessing to have friend come along & say "party's over" - whatcha' doin' today? ;-)
Meant to say - BREN - you're gonna STILL have the MOST GORGEOUS SMILE IN THE WORLD!
-
Love you a bunch Sunnyflowers,
Bren

My best pity party was during chemo. I was whining and grumpy. My dh picked up the phone, dialled an unknown number and told the person who answered that they were invited to a pity party. Then he handed the phone to me and left the room. Of course I was a bit annoyed. But when I heard the familiar voice of my childhood friend he was forgiven. He knew she was the only one who could make me laugh in spite of myself. That is why I love him so much. (He is also a great cook!)
-
Oh, pip, that is SO fabulous. What a wonderful, kind, understanding, empathetic human being you have as a DH. And a cook. What time is dinner :-)
-
Pip, I second what Sunny said! You won the husband lottery with that guy! Mine's pretty awesome too though!

Pip and Yorkie....good for you and yay for good guys. Sitting here watching our white-out taking place. Snow came much later than predicted but it is sure making up for it. This morning as well, the prediction was upped. We are now slated to get 15 inches before it stops. It is gorgeous and beautiful and I do love a beautiful snow, but I do have a fairly good ability with my 4-wheel drive to be able to move about. There are some who would not or could not venture out. Even my one BIL has a rear-wheel drive Cadillac. Couldn't believe he would do that....spend that much money and not get a car that would go in snow. He wanted a 'performance' vehicle.
Sorry -- but he sits home on his derrière' so what does he need a 'performance' car for......he is not going to race and maybe ( good weather only ) will drive to South Dakota once during the year. He is single...hmmm, wonder why!!!!We do tease him about this.
Going to look to see what graphics there might be. Just hoping that we don't lose our power......this beautiful snow will look rather ugly fast if we do. Tonight will put us below -10 or so. Not looking forward to that.
Will see ya'll later.

Morning Girlfriends!
PiP ... your hubby is so special! Mr. Tim panics when I get to feeling that bad. He just doesn't know what to do. I'm glad he's home today.
Yorkie ... your hubby sounds wonderful too.
Sunnyflowers ... we're right at freezing level ... weather doesn't know if it should be freezing rain or snow outside! You guys up north and in the Midwest really have it bad right now ... that is a huge cold front coming down. We're keeping a heater going in the bathroom to keep the pipes from freezing.
My bad tooth really hurts. I can't believe how much the cold air affected it yesterday. I walked the dogs and was hurting really bad when we got back to the house. Thankfully the weather sucks today so I won't have to walk them in the cold.
I hope everyone has a great day! Going to watch my "cutie pie" (that's what Tim calls him) Kaepernick play in Greenbay this afternoon. Geez ... I hope he's got some long underwear.
hugs and love to all,
Bren

apropos:

Jackie, so true! Imagine if Rand Paul got his wish and there were no municipal services to clear the roads!
-
Jackie - you're on a roll today! Great chuckles at all the pictures, captions. SO true.
Bren - glad Mr. Tim isn't heading our way - still so cold, and tonight it is going to RAIN, seriously, and then back to below 0 by tomorrow night. I feel so sorry for the municipal workers trying to keep roads passable. Too cold for the ice melting salt, then freezing rain, which washes away the sand spread after plowing which was what made it possible to drive.
Weird thing too, one day last week when it was SO COLD, there was a gathering of ROBINS near the back stone walls, wandering all over the grass, I think looking for worms? I asked a friend, why so many pregnant ( they were SO large) robins were in clusters ( what is a group of robins called? a gaggle of geese, an exaltation of larks, robins?) - and she explained they weren't pregnant - their feathers were all FLUFFED up because it was so cold. Never saw that many robins except in the very early days of Spring.

Revised estimate on going out to feed feral cats. After having to shovel our way to my car......I felt that even shoveling a path would not likely produce them coming out from whatever place of safety and comfort they might have....so we are staying in. We will be having later on to shovel again I'm sure. Quite the storm out there -- like nothing we have seen since we moved back to my home here 16 years ago. This was the second time we had to shovel to my car. Just incredible, but with the light snow....my car would go fine down the lane.
Dh will go out later and blade the driveway. So feeling for anyone in this stuff. We will be fine as frog hair split up the middle as long as our power stays on. Got lots of food.....so it is not bad at all for us.

Wow! Jackie ... you guys have a lot of shoveling to do! That's neat that your DH has a blade for the mower to push away the snow. My dream is to some day own my own John Deere! I have the cutest shirt that my sis got for me ... it's pink and says on the front "Will Trade Boyfriend For Tractor" and below it is a picture of a John Deere. Sure could use one to bushhog away some of the wild stickery blackberry vines! Those things stick me all the time when I'm mowing the fields. Glad to hear you have plenty of food and are safe and snug in this storm.
hugs,
Bren

Jackie, LOVED the video. I am ging bak to watch more of Mrs Bowers now!
-
Made the last run of the evening to take another five inches or so off the deck and sidewalks.........also the walk to the back dog pen and dug out all of the area in front of the pen. Wow, my arms are feeling it, though the snow was a lot lighter this time. We will have to hope that we don't get much more tonight but some blowing snow may leave drifts here and there. Should have burned a lot of calories anyway....but I took the opportunity to nibble some left over Christmas candy knowing I could likely get away with it right now.
Still hoping we keep out power.....so far, so good. Hope everyone else is staying fairly warm. Dh got stuck with the snow blade -- waited to late and should have gone out there early and used it twice. With the drifts and 15 inches of snow....it is just not big enough to get through.....we may have to do some manual removal in the morning first.
See you all later.

Downton Abbey! Yeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw!
-
Blue - LOL. I confess, I'm getting tired of it. Yikes, blasphemy? Beginning to feel like Brideshead got caught in a "reality tv show" - becoming MUCH TOO MUCH written for the USA audience...alas...
-
Loved Brideshead. Jeremy Irons was so good in it.
I just love the era Sunny. Hooked on Murdoch Mysteries too (Canadian made).
-
Sunny, it's all marketing, as you know. U.S. is the biggest market for Downton Abbey -- expect to see more of Shirley MacLaine in it this season! I recorded it last night (had to watch Revenge and The Good Wife instead!). Now that the freezing cold weather is moving in to our area, I think I'll hole up inside this afternoon and watch it!
And.....I must be one of the very, very few who never watched Brideshead Revisited!
BTW, I just read that Darth Cheney's evil daughter has dropped out of the race for Senate seat. Hahahahaha!
-
I love Murdoch too. The books by Maureen Jennings are worth reading if you are a fan.
-
Linda - I am with you - I watched Revenge and Good Wife and always tape Downton - I never did see Brideshead Revisited - wonder if they'll show it again one of these days - another favourite of mine was The Jewel in the Crown - I read the books years ago and fell in love with the series (I borrowed it from the public library at some point and "binge watched"). Of course Downton is skewed to the U;.S. audience - PBS is paying for at least part of it.
-
I didn't watch Brideshead Revisited either. In fact, the way things go here I don't usually get into anything that is a small series. A pity probably.....like reading, I've got the kind of existence that makes it difficult to put time into things that have any continuation to them at all. I so enjoyed reading too, the feel and smell of books, even many of the dusty stores and resale shops had an air about them. I always felt a treasure was there just waiting to be discovered by me. Mainly by the wayside.
I heard the blurb on t.v. that Ms. Cheney was calling it a day. Can't really imagine that she would have done much had she went all the way. I'm glad no one will have to "suffer" the attempt to climb to the top of a very small hill, that should not have ever likely been considered in the first place. More energy for the rest of them.
Bitter, bitter cold here today. Had a nice sun out but it has lately started a bit of hide and seek so hope it gets back out to stay soon. No slow plow in our lane so we are staying put. We are fairly certain we could get down our lane -- we always have, but due to powdery and blowing snow, we don't know if the roads out of here are all right. I would not want to get somewhere and have to leave my car there. It is no day to walk that is for sure. Trying to get a hold of the township and see just where we might be on the list. If they can get to our lane.....then we would be good to go.
I have to say as long as the heat stays on.....looking out is like seeing all sorts of beautiful postcards out of your window. Sort of amazing as we have not had "winter" like this the whole 16 yrs. we have been home. Hopefully, we are able to get out soon. Need to go to the bank, fill up my gas tank.....get bills paid and ready to be dropped off around town...so lots to do the minute we can leave.
