Her2+ Vaccine Trial?

Hello Ladies :)

Just wondering if anyone out there has been in a vaccine clinical trial? I just finished up my Herceptin two weeks ago and my doctor has but me in touch with a team at MD Anderson that are doing a study on a vaccine for those of us diagnosed with Her2+++ .

  1. disease recurrence rates between HLA-A2-positive patients receiving the GP2 + GM-CSF vaccine and HLA-A2-positive patients receiving GM-CSF alone

Wondered if anyone on here has participated in the trial.

I'll have to fly from Portland, Oregon to Houston once a month for the inoculations….that is going to be costly, but I'm thinking it's worth a try! I'll go every four weeks for 6 shots and then two boosters a year for the next three years. I'm so hopeful that some of these new vaccines they're studying will be effective!

Would love to hear from others that have participated!

Hi CameraKim:  I have heard about this trial but am not on it.  Hopefully when I am done with my active treatment the trial will still be accepting patients....please keep us posted as to how the injections go etc.  I would love to learn from you and others on this topic.  By the way...congrats on being done with your active treatment.  What a great Christmas present.  Keep the faith!!

HI, yes I was diagnosed in 2011 with stage 1 er+ pr+ and her2+ I found the clinical trial online and started it in July 2013. I had to go every three weeks for my injections to winston salem NC. That site and a couple others have closed because they will be starting the 3rd phase of the trial sometime next year...(the 3rd phase is given WITH herceptin) It was very tolerable and each injection left me with a quarter or so sized lump on my leg (which is normal and goes away after 2-3 days) Its very itchy and looks like a really large mosquito bite. I had no side effects whatsoever aside from wanting to itch my leg off sometimes. Make sure you find a site soon, because all of the phase 2 locations will be closing soon from what I understand. If you have to fly to MD anderson, threre is a company called corperate angels that might be able to help. Its for cancer patients. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Hi,  I am interested in this.  I am finishing Herceptin at the end of January.

There are 2 centres in Europe (Germany and Greece) - does anyone know if they still be open for recruiting next year?  Does one have to be a US national to participate?

I just got the first inoculation after the six months after the initial series of inoculations.  I am going to Baltimore.

Thanks Girlstrong.  I've now emailed the two centres in Europe.  The German centre isn't recruiting anymore and they only deal with military.  I'm still waiting for a reply from the Greek centre.

Hi Ladies, we were all set to go down Monday to meet with the Doctor at MDACC....airline tickets and everything. Apparently we were misinformed about what our insurance  covered and it looks like I won't be able to take part....DARN! The study sounded so promising with little/no toxicity.

Best of luck to you. I hope you'll check in and let us know how you're doing!
