Starting Chemo in December 2013

Happy New Year all
I'm 6 days out of round two, and I have to say this one has kicked my butt for the last 3 days, very fatigued and just no energy at all. Got my labs yesterday, I think all is fine but I see lymphocytes are very low, otherwise all else looks normal or a bit below. The neutrophils are high as well as WBC, I need to talk to MO to better understand each of those. She calls me usually to discuss, but since a holiday she may not. It was my weekly draw, not chemo day draw.
Had my head buzzed to #2 yesterday and wore my wig, some noticed some did not, it is pretty itchy after awhile and I'm still shedding this little hair so I hope it rubs off with showers. Yeh, it's odd how the pubic hair goes, and " that's your sign".
It is quite bothersome having people saying comments or telling us how we should feel...at my blood draw I was asked by the nurse if I knew all the side effects of AC, especially the heart that could come much later...I said yes my MO gave me a complete run down of the risks, and being told I look tired... Well no sh#t I do, you have poison put in you and then tell me! Yeh I'm a grump today,,,
-
Barbara, that happened to me:(, day 14, that night I was pulling my hair out. I cut my own pixie cut last night. My hair was a medium length, I was shedding like crazy, it was gross. I'Il probably buzz it though, my scalp hurt sleeping last night.
-
that has always been my peeve, " you look tired" I got told that when I was at work, really?? Thanks for noticing!! Dumb people.
-
beths1. My port hurt for several weeks- tender for quite awhile. Now it only is troublesome when i lay a certain way. Idon't think the nurses told me how long it would take to become almost unnoticeable.
Crazywabbit. How funny. All I wanted yesterday was lox and a bagel. It was as though I was consuming gold finally.
Happy New Year to all. Amy

Happy New Year ladies! I have a new grandson as of 2:07 this morning. I can't wait to hold him! I was up until 5am, so hoping to catch a nap later.
May blessings and good health abound for us in 2014!
-
congrats keep the faith!! What a wonderful blessing!
Jackiaek- my nurse was a jerk after my first AC round this week. Do you feel like it was worse with round 2? My round 2 AC is about mid January. How long do the symptoms last from round 1? I feel like I have a bad stomach bug but can't throw up. Like if I could throw up id feel better but I know that's not true.
Those if you with young kids... How do you take care of them through this. I've had help through today, but tomorrow I don't know if I'll have any extra. My youngest is. 22 months...
-
Off to round 3 tomorrow, my stomach is not happy today. Losing our hair is miserable. I am finally bald with a few patches of hair here and there. I wear a beanie around the house, I am not comfortable with the bald look yet. Plus, my head gets cold. My scalp is getting a little itchy and dry. Any recommendations for oil to put on my head?
Jackieak - My lymphocytes were low last time, I haven't looked at my labs this week. Please let me know what your MO says about these, I was wondering myself.
I cannot remember who posted re using ice on feet and hands, I heard that this is important when using Taxol. I was just at a LGFB class and there was a lady who had toe nail issues (Stinky nails that look like fungus, but not fungus) from the taxol. I will want to do this when the time comes, please share your information.

anyone been given zyprexa for nausea?
-
eat the yummy food today crazyw! Had my 2nd AC Monday and by last night my taste buds were already going AWOL. Glad I enjoyed Thai food with my DD on Sunday.
We cancer ladies need to fully embrace carpe diem!!!!
-
just ate mildly spicy Thai curry for lunch. Was worried it may make my mouth sore but it did not. Don't think I will eat it before chemo tomorrow though.
Keepthefaith. Big congrats so your new grand-baby, very exciting. Is this your first one? I just have a grand-dog.
RHGSR. Are you sure zyprexa not Zofran. Zyprexa is an antipsychotic and I have never heard it used for nausea but often there are many off label uses for different meds.

i have an arm port it seems very slow healing and maybe my imagination but in certain positions feels like i get an irregular heartbeat. does anyone feel a tightness in chest post port?
-
crazywabbit- yes it was zyprexa. I asked for something on Tuesday when I got Neulasta to alternate with the Zofran. Cause the Zofran is giving me headaches and not helping with nausea. Looked up zyprexa and it's used to treat schizophrenia!! Called doc after hours. He said it's used for nausea and can completely eliminate it. But I'm uncomfortable using something I'm not familiar with especially when there are other meds out there like compazine and phenergan. So he is supposed to be calling something in but he has to do it before 5 or the pharmacy will close for New Year's Day. So frustrated.
-
KLI, I got the chest port two weeks ago. I feel weird things also. Like a pulling up my neck in certain positions. My heart also feels like it is irregular or racing now and again. I didn't think about it being the port, just the stress or the fear or perhaps the heartburn or etc etc etc....
-
Happy New Year everyone. I hope 2014 brings only good things to all of us.
I have my #4 Taxol tomorrow. #3 gave me level 6 bone and muscle pain Sunday night and all day Monday. This was not from Neulasta because they haven't given me that shot yet. I am also having intermittent sharp gastro pains. Anybody else have a similar experience?
Keepthefaith - Big Congrats!!! That is a big wish for me, to have a grandchild. Enjoy yours!
Regarding children with cancer.... So sad. We got a photo Christmas card from friends whose 2 year old girl has cancer. I choked up looking at her adorable smiling face.
Regarding mean nurses.....I've had my share. Next time ask her "Where is your compassion?"
-
I would like to join the discussion here because...
I have originally joined the November chemo group, but suffered a delay in my treatment due to post op infection that sent me to hospital for a week and had to have my abscess drained and packed for another two weeks after.
I just had my # 2 chemo yesterday. Last night was pretty rough with severe nausea resulting in one round of vomiting, but today miraculously I recovered and didn't have many SE other than tiredness and a few dizzy spells.
I am about to self inject Neulasta and for change took some Claritin, just to see if it would help. Last cycle I had some flu like aches and pains about two days after, so I am ready for a bit of relief. Will keep you posted if it worked.
Quirky: Don't I know you from somewhere?
-
Big Congrats keepthefaith, an awesome blessing for the New Year.
Kim, I will let you know what I learn about the lymphocytes,,,hoping nothing concerning but may explain my dead beat tired butt!
Rhgsr, I can't say the SE are worse, they are different. I'm not as foggy headed, nor did I have the flu feeling as long this time, it's just the fatigue that is worse this time...I'm out of breathe walking up 4 stairs. I'm pushing through it but I could lay around for 24 hours if I let myself. I hope you continue to have help with the children, I can't imagine running after a toddler the way I feel now...
Hope to get 3rd implant fill tomorrow, I cancelled it a few days ago and nurse told me they don't like to wait 3 weeks...wonder why, I have these temp implants for another 4 months, so what's the hurry, going to take some flexeril this time cause those muscle spasm are painful for quite a few days....what next!
-
For the mastectomy ladies: Do you have tightness, itchiness and pain around the scar? Do you feel it all the time or sometimes?
Oh, and a Happy New Year to everyone here! May 2014 bring us health and happiness!
-
amazon, I don't have tightness around scar, but the arms and armpits, also had some cording going on, I have tightness from the implants, muscle tightness, I have the scar tape on the incisions still, but those never bothered me. Do you have implants? That will cause tightness in the area, also if they took a lot of the skin. I had a radical modified on right, took allot of skin, and a modified on left with nipple sparing. My right needs to catch up to the left size eventually
-
@ jackie: I had so called simple UMX on the right, but no TI as I wanted to scale down my chances for complication. I also am going to have rads later on.
-
DJJ
Please report your chest/port feelings to your doc. May need a dye study. The small tail of the port can migrate where it shouldn't be and still have a good blood return.

hey there Amazon!!!!
-
Amazon, I have tightness and discomfort. Working with a p.t. to increase range of motion, and stretching. Muscles are tight from lack of use, had drains in from 10/29 until 11/21. The p.t. is lymphadema certified, as I had nodes removed. Occasionally, I have sharp pains in the area my breast was in, I believe it is still nerves regenerating.

Good morning and Happy New Year sisters!!! 2014 is our year of victory!!! Today I go for round 2...ding ding...been cutting my hair off in stages since it was so long and yesterday it was shedding so bad and I wanted to cook so the best solution was to buzz it off!!! My son did one side and my daughter did the other side and gave me a mohawk...lol...just for a picture then off it went. It is going to take some getting used to but unlike my cancer my hair will grow back!!!
Crazywabbit, I lost the pub hair first and then the head hair started soon after. It was hurting my head so bad last Saturday I had to start cutting it off. I too ate some good food yesterday knowing that by this week end I won't want anything substancial although last round I had some crazy cravings...I wanted pudding, tapioca, apples, mac and cheese and of course when I went out shopping to stock pile I bought jello, applesauce, soups and crackers...go figure!!!
I can't remember who it is but someone has the same schedule as I do and is going for round 2 today...sorry I can't remember your name and have to get ready so can't look for it but good luck to you and maybe we can compare notes later today!!! Good luck to all having tx today!!! Fight on!!!!
-
On my way to my third chemo. I hope everyone has a great day.
-
Charusa,
I am going in for round two of AC today also ( I go in at noon), we should be joined by oranje_mama and waterdog, of course pending our counts are all up to snuff.
Head hair staring to get a bit itchy but not hurting yet. still only get 1-2 strands when I run my fingers through my hair. Soon that will change too.
Good luck to all the warriors getting chemo today, and those recuperating from earlier this week.
Barbara

Love my port. Very easy for the nurses to access. The first few weeks I had it, I noticed it alot. It would bother me if I slept on the same side as my port but now I don't even notice it and forget that it is there
-
Day #18 and hair coming out by small handfuls. Was itching now just a little tender. Still have a lot of hair and not ready to shave it just yet. Got a wig I like and some cute hats
-
KLI - I did have tightness feeling actually in my neck when I lay on the opposite side from where the port was put in. It has slowly gone away and now just a little tenderness around the port site. I think it was the bruising. You could see quite a bit of bruising from the outside (visible black & blue on my neck & where port is), then I imagined, must be internal bruising too. I know it's there - I put on lotion every day after getting out of the shower & it's still strange to me in that spot, but during the day I don't notice it anymore. Port was placed 2 weeks ago.
Crazywabbit - good luck today. I have an infusion of Herceptin today (I get that every week) but don't get chemo (TC) until next week. I think Waterdog might be on the same schedule as me? Luckily, Herceptin doesn't seem to give me any SEs (at least that I notice so far).
I asked this question on the TCH board but thought I'd ask here too - I'm wondering how long my hair will last. I'm on Day 15 and definitely more shedding than normal, but not handfuls/not crazy yet. The wig store will cut my hair short for me & use my own hair to create a "halo" that I can use under hats. But they can only do that before it is falling like crazy because they need to make small ponytails to cut off. I'm hoping to make it to Sat. (48 hrs away) when my two daughters can come with me (they are 6 & 9 and totally obsessed with the hair thing). I hope I won't be waiting too long . . . . I guess if I wake up tomorrow & it seems to really be falling I can go without them tomorrow.
-
Good luck in the BGC today ladies! You got this.
leealice, glad your port is doing well!
regarding hair, I am on my 30th day since first TX and 7th day since 2nd TX of TC. I still have enough hair on my head to have sparse bangs and hair around my neck and ears to wear a cap w/o knowing my hair is almost gone! The top of my head is more bald than the rest. It seems to have stopped falling out so far, but am thinking it will start again soon. My hair has always been super thick, so I wanted to experiment to see how long it could out-do the chemo!:). Downstairs it is sparse...TMI maybe, sorry! No pain or itching since initial fall out a couple of wks ago. I think it started about day 16 for me.
I think I will see about going to the Look Good Feel Better class soon. I got a great little scarf from the good wishes website in the mail the other day!
I hope you all have an easy time after your TX's this week. I have thrush and MO gave me meds, so other than that, I am feeling great!
I got to hold my new grandson yesterday. I am so lucky! He is precious and adorable. I told my DD "I think he is the most beautiful baby I have ever seen."...and she said, "Mom, I think that's the same thing you said about Cohen and Harper"! (her other two boys)! LOL
((HUGS))

oranje_mama - It seems like most of our scalps start hurting before the majority of our hair loss. I was 3 days out of round two when I had my head buzzed due to the soreness of my head and I didn't want long clumps falling out on Christmas. My hair really started falling out about days 21, 22 & 23 after my first chemo. Now I have a few patches here and there. Good luck, I hope that you are able to wait until this weekend.
Heading out for round 3 this morning. Hoping for little of no SEs for us all.
