Mirena and breast cancer??

I was diagnosed with hormone positive breast cancer around 14 months after having the Mirena device inserted. I believe there is a correlation with the breast cancer and the Mirena. I am wondering if there are others that has had this same experience and if anyone else has sought legal advice to prove the Mirena is the cause of our hormone positive cancer. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there. I too have hormone positive breast cancer. It was recommended by my oncologist that I refrain from using any type of BC containing horomones, including the Mirena device. I chose to have the alternative, Paragard, inserted as it does not contain horomones. I would talk with your onc before deciding to keep the Mirena, I don't know about you but I am paranoid about 'feeding' my tumor!

I think you are right and my lawyer does too.  There are LOTS of lawsuits against Mirena for various side effects including breast cancer.  He is working with national law firms and can potentially help you get some answers.  His name is Shane Boasberg 512-355-7474.  I am hoping and praying that this is the answer to why I had Stage IIIB metastatic cancer at age 34.  I am a survivor, a mother, and a believer in all the good that is out there.  Good luck :D

I had mirena in 2006 and had nothing but problems. Fast forward to this year when I was diagnosed with hormone positive (94% estrogen and 76% progesterone) DCIS. No one in my family has had BC and I'm 36. I have often wondered if Mirena had anything to do with this.

My story: Mirena at age 37...removed at 39 and first mammogram...second mammogram, stage IIa, hormone positive Dx at age 40. No history of breast cancer in family or any genetic markers.

I went to my doctor to have Mirena removed so that we could try for a third child when my 7 cm lump was discovered.  No more babies for me :(.
