Hi laides,

if you know any oncologist in NYC who's caring and willing to work with the patient, please PM me or leave the info on this thread.

i met mine briefly and she was not willing to do the oncotype DX score for me. even i have two nodes positive but i still want to know the possibility of re-occurrence. i just didn't like the fact that she just shot me down like that. i want a second or third opinions.

thanks!!

I don't know any doctors in NY but depending on your results, the oncotype DX score may be meaningless. I didn't need the test based on my results because I needed chemo either way.  I had the test anyway (even though my doctor said I didn't need it) and it just confirmed that my doctor was right.  My score was like 70.  lol  If you have two nodes positive, you'll need chemo, IMO.  That may be why she doesn't see the point in having the test done. It won't change your treatment options at this point.  You already have a higher likelihood of it coming back with positive nodes.

hi Illinoisnative - thanks for your reply.

i need chemo anyway but the alternative doc told me i need to see the oncotype score, bc it's an indication of my cancer how easy to recurrent, it tests the 21 genes if they're prone to mutate. it's just something i think i need to know. i don't see it as a green/red light for chemo, but it's some information that i want to know.

I totally understand.  I was in your position and I "needed" to know, too, even though chemo was a given for me.  I think most people use the test to decide whether they need chemo or not.  That's why my doctor said I didn't need it.  But, like you, I wanted to know...lol.  I needed chemo due to the grade (3 which is the highest), my age, and the size of the tumor.  I still wanted to know.  It just didn't change anything for me.  My insurance paid for it so I did it because I was curious.

I also worked for an alternative doctor for four years...so I get it.

they told me i needed chemo based on the size of the tumor...it's big..or more precisely it's HUGE
