Thinking Out Loud.....

Glad DD is feeling better, Diane.
So happy for the good health news, Meece. Sorry about the step kids. Glad you will be able to be with the little ones at Christmas!
Snowing here - DH and DS have gone to pick up DD from school. I was supposed to work this afternoon, but they thought it would be slow, so I didn't have to go in if I didn't need the hours. I could use the hours, but I'll let them make up for overstaffing earlier in the week (plus I tend to clock out a little late most of the time since it is usually busy when I'm supposed to get out - so I'm probably already got some more time than I was supposed to) AND I need to clean this house. Unless I have JUST cleaned it, it is a mess. Well, it's really always a mess - it's relative. (And if my relatives would pick up after themselves and organize their stuff and if DH would work with me to organize OUR stuff, maybe the house could be clean for real...not sure that's going to happen though.)
A week or so ago, DH put the hose reel away, but the hose actually had some water trapped in it, so I think he shook it out and left the hose stretched out in the yard for the residue to evaporate. Well, as usual, he never put the hose away and now it has snowed and is snowing again today. I warned DS that if he goes in the back yard, to be careful not to trip on the hose that will likely be buried in the snow at that point... I should have just put it away myself. When will I learn?
Hope everyone is doing well!
((((((TOL)))))) -
Christ...that is probably what he had in mind.....lol.......who likes to put away a wet, dirty. hard to roll up hose......just don't trio over it.......and if you do, and get hurt......when you're, just best the hell out of him with it.........NOZZLE END FIRST....👍 -
Meece glad you are going to see the grandchildren and as far as step kids, well you know their kids will grow up...they better watch themselves...
-
the hose looks like this in the back yard - so when it's covered with snow, it will be easy to trip on...
I pointed out the kitchen window and asked what was wrong out there - he looked around like he didn't see it, smiling. He thinks it's funny.
At least he put the new windshield wipers on the car - he bought them the week before last. He said he would put them on Thurs night after the Scout meeting - I said that's okay - you can do it on the weekend. Then he didn't do it - then it snowed - and THEN when I went to leave work one night and there was some frost on the window, I realized the right wiper wasn't touching the glass.... that always happens to me - I have a problem when he doesn't do something he says he's going to do. I really need to learn to do all these things myself... -
Chris, LOL yesterday I was backing out of the driveway and saw the bright green hose lying in the garden next to the garage in full sight. I thought "ghetto" and I got out and went to put it in the garage but I remembered the garage is full and I can't really put it away....so I moved it behind some thicker bushes for now. Plus we have a 4 foot mirror standing out by the trash enclosure....for months! I keep asking DH when he will get rid of it....it is facing my neighbor's yard and with the leaves down, it is probably reflecting the sun that way at times. It doesn't matter that there are only 2 of us here....we always have something that needs to be done.
Ducky,Sandy, you must be clobbered with snow tonight or at least rain on top of snow...it turned to rain about 7 PM on Long Island...Temps rose to40s and snow is about gone.
After a long week at work doing a favor for someone who doesn't deserve it, (covering 8 classes in 4 days plus my own job), when it came to Friday, I felt my whole head get clogged and painful...great....now that I can relax, it's time to be sick. I am fighting it and it's not so bad. Made cookies today and then attended a party with DH's colleagues. Fun!
Meece, glad your son is doing OK and that you can travel to see Patch & Lala. What a wonderful way to spend Christmas. -
Christ.....Don't be a hero...learn from this 78 year old broad......men have a plan....if I piss her off enough she will do it herself, and we do.....and that is one less job for them......it ain't easy, but "DON'T GET CAUGHT IN THEIR WEB..THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEIR DOING"........
Joan.....not too bad this time with the snow...just very sloppy....a little slippery, but the rain later did help,,,,,,,had my grandaughter's birthday at my daughters.....went early, (drove myself)........many offers for a ride back home when it began to look nasty, but declined.......angered my kids, cause I think they can't handle my independence sometimes, but did fine.....and said to myself..."the way they get mad, is the way they can get glad"😡😡😡😡........I knew I would be ok driving......
Tough without a man sometimes, very tough.....easy things become major problems, but I have learned through the many years that "you put your big girl panties on and deal with it"..............what else can you do...... -
Ducky, way to go....I want to be like you ...drive everywhere.... hope I alway will. I don't worry much about the snow except for other stupid people. Last night, people were passing us going 60 mph + on a covered road.
Today I was on a roll cleaning out places I haven't looked in years....drawer full of candles...threw away half. Seasonal decor - put it in a closet...
I asked DH to paint the bath with primer today as our vanity top is arriving Tuesday-- to finally finish the bath we started in May. He was yelling and expleting...I ignored...then I couldn't ignore...I knew paint spilled. I tried to stay calm...all new tile, new wood vanity, UGH ... it was inside the vanity and who knows if it went behind...but it's cleaned up. I told him he is DONE with painting...no more....whenever I say I want to hire someone he refuses ... but after this anger management moment, I will have to do it when he is not around.
Rant! sorry....
This is probably a function of us getting older...not that we can't...just that we don't have the patience.
Work tomorrow....easy day.... night classes not running. YAYYYYYYYYY! I will shop on the way home (I ordered on line, paid and will pick up) then home to finish the decor and start cleaning the upstairs for my 4 guys who will be here in a week! Excited, but fearing I will not finish the work, shopping and wrapping. We always end up throwing unwanted stuff in the basement and then forgetting about it. Am I the only one? -
Nope Joan, only in my case it was the attic in my 2 story house.....now in the "ranch 1 floor" it is the shed, from when I moved 3 years ago........and to me things are never the same when they stay in those places long enough...... they just get that certain aroma that in some things if it can't be washed "forget about it"...
In this house my attic is very warm because the heating system is up there, but on moving day the things marked "shed" (shed which was supposed to be temporary).....never got to the attic because it was winter and no one ever bothered, and the boxes were too heavy for me.......oh well doesn' anyway the kids will probably just get a big dumpster and put everything in it the day after the funeral.....lol
More snow expected her tomorrow....not sure how much.......hugs -
Ducky, how's the snow? We had a repeat - snow then rain. At home it's all gone but still quite cold. Roads were closed when I was driving home from work.
So, it's quiet on this thread....it's a busy time for most.
Tomorrow's my last teaching night...then easy days and some time off.
Hope everyone is safe and warm!

Good Night, Joan......... -
Joan, when something needs painting, DH is particular, but then he wants me to do all of the cutting in with the brush and he wants to do all the rolling. When I want something painted, all I have to do is to get the roller out and start. I hate to do the brush work, but it is a good trde off to get the job done.
Right now, all of my extra stuff goes into the spare room closets and the rooms themselves. Our Christmas stuff goes into the attic, but our ceilings are 10' and I have difficulty getting things up the ladder and into it, so DH has to do that.
Good morning, Val and everyone!
-
when my son redid this entire house for what I hope is the final move...he put in a vaulted ceiling about 20 feet high set it's highest point in the family-room.....with a fancy window on the window wall, sbout 18 feet above.......I ask...who the hell can clean that thing...beautiful, but not practical........when the sun shines through in just the right spotI I can see the Spider in the web thumbing his nose at me.....lol
Kids today like fancy....I like easy......still that time 2 1/2 years ago I said.""whatever".......now after BC, Letrozole, and SE'S I think........what were you thinking........that was Dec., 2010.....cancer reared it's ugly head Feb., 2011........changed a lot....oh well shit happens.......HATE THAT DAMN SPIDER.......lol
-
checking in hope everybody is well, canceled chemo didn't want to have a sick christmas and worry everybody.....bbl
-
Hope your well too.....hugs
-
Hope you feel great for Christmas, Sandy!
So DS has a concert tonight. He doesn't seem to realize he needs to comb/brush the back of his hair too - so I tried to get him to brush it as he was getting ready to leave. I even got a brush for him - but he said no and ran away from me...out the door - without his coat - then he realized it was cold and he didn't have his coat - so I tried to get him when he came back into the house, but he was too fast for me. No, he isn't 3. He's 17...
Oh - and the hose is totally buried now. But sadly, it's going to warm up and and all the snow will probably melt so we won't have a white xmas... What's the point of snow if we can't have a white Christmas?
((((((TOL))))))
-
I'm with you Ducky - I like easy. I don't really even want to live in a house anymore - too much work.
-
Hey it's been quiet here again...
Sandy, glad you are planning to be feeling well for Christmas. How are you doing...still dancing with Mr. O? Hugs and prayers for a healing touch for you soon.Ducky, when we built our house (over 20 years ago) we made open ceilings from 13' in LR to 18' in family room....lots of windows on the back...and you are absolutely right. Impossible to keep up with the webs....we used to get 15' Christmas trees...now we are down to 10" which works much better. Because of our vaulted ceiling, our 2nd floor area is small and therefore our bedrooms are small-ish. If we had put in a traditional ceiling, we'd have twice the space. No matter now...kids are gone; DH and I are rattling around in the space with our closets, basement and attic crammed full of our kids' stuff.
Life is an adventure.....I hope you are enjoying the Christmas season and will have some family time. I will be home with my adult guys....no little grandkids on Christmas...sad but it's OK since we will go early the day after to have a wild visit with everyone in CT.
I agree, Chris....not fair...we had 2 bouts of snow, ice and cold...but Christmas will be sunny and cold with no snow.
But then, I'll just be happy if everyone can get here from Chicago and SFO and NYC.Now........shop shop shop (online, of course) clean bake clean bake wrap wrap wrap...oh, and grade papers too.
Happy week end!
Hey (((Sheila)))
-
Thanks Joan and sorry about not being with grandchildren, kids don't understand how important it is to see them, they find out when they get to be grandparents by then it is too late...
everybody else Happy Sunday!!
-
Waiting for DD to finish getting ready so we can go to the mall....I hope that it is somehow not busy yet... I hate going to that mall, especially at xmas - it's always a madhouse and you have to park 5 miles away. But it has more and better stuff than the mall we usually go to. Gotta love last minute shopping. Even online, stuff is sold out at the beginning of the month. I need to remember to buy what I want from LLBean in November... But I don't think of things until it's too late these days...I want my old brain back.
Going to see the Hobbit later... I have a feeling it's going to bug me that they pronounce Smaug - "Smowg" instead of "Smawg."
How are you feeling, Sandy? Well, I hope.
I hope everyone else is doing well too.
Is everyone ready for xmas?

Merry Christmas/Happy New Year (((TOL)))
Three out of four of my big guys who stayed with me have left as of tonight. It's quiet, but i am finally relaxing.
I am postponing my visit to DC - the only DD & family I did not get to see. It is both my grandsons' birthdays and I am usually there; but they are traveling in a few days and we will wait. Hard decision...but my body says "thank you, I need rest".Wishing everyone peace and joy and love (now that the preparations are behind us).
Most of all, to everyone here, I wish good health - the best possible for each situation - and miracles in our lives whether it be health, relationships, finances, kids, anything! We have to make each year count.Hugs & prayers!
-
lost you guys again......WTH.......,.
-
Belated Merry Christmas.."well at least I will be here for New Years.........
-
Thank you Joan for your lovely thoughts......xoxo
-
Hi Ducky, glad you are back...
Hi Diane...hope your Christmas was special with your DH & DD...
I took my Gson & his gf back to NYC today in the rain...they had a lot of "stuff" so drove them to their door...then we went out to a great diner. ...
DS flew to Chicago and had to check his magic bullet blender (too dangerous to carry on)...there he was rearranging his suitcase in the midst of the check in line...he txted me "everyone in LaGuardia has seen my underwear" LOL
I had a cup of Chinese tea in a new mini teapot that my DS brought me. Nice to kick back... -
Joan......were they kidding........WTH could be dangerous about a Magic Bullet.......ridiculous
-
Yup, too funny...I flew with a metal nail file in my carry on for 3 legs on Delta. On the 4th leg home, they took it away. Go figure...
Too quiet here onTOL...getting cold in the NE.
Sending best thoughts for everyone here...stay warm and safe!
