Starting Radiation Tomorrow

Options

I was diagnosed early December and I have mets to bones liver and lungs. MO decided to do a couple weeks of radiation to help alleviate all of the pain I'm in. I've searched high n low on what to expect tomorrow but the process still isn't clear to me. Will radiation kill the cancer and how soon will I notice a decline in pain? Thanks

    Hi Garlikbread,

We're so sorry to hear of your diagnosis, and that you're in such pain!

You may find it helpful to check out the main Breastcancer.org site's section on Radiation Therapy, especially the Types of Radiation pages, which outline what to expect with each kind of therapy.

    We hope this helps!

    Hi Garlik,

So sorry to hear of your diagnosis this month.  It sucks.

I wanted to let you know that if you post this topic in the Stage IV forum you will get lots of responses.

I had radiation for 8 weeks after my lumpectomy.  I didn't have it for mets or pain.  The radiation itself is painless and goes rather quickly.  What I did experience after about 6 weeks was extreme fatigue.  Do you know which areas your doctor wants to radiate?  That will have a bearing on what side effects you might encounter.

    Sending best wishes to you,

    Bren
