I'll just call my insurance/HMO and get the answer. Sorry to ask.

Hi Rosevalley. I saw your question yesterday, but I was hesitant to post a reply. Sorry you didn't get one. I'm in Canada so things might be a little different. Sometimes they even vary from province to province. Having experienced palliative care myself (that's what we call it here), I can tell you that they will do whatever it takes to make you comfortable. A blood transfusion, however, would not be done here under those circumstances. You have to sign a DNR order to be accepted into palliative care and before that you need a referral from your doctor. Those referrals are only made when all treatment fails and life expectancy is less than 1-2 months. No extreme measures are taken and no important resources are used. Just to be on the safe side, if you want the transfusion, I'd get it before signing up for hospice. like I said though, since I believe your hospice is something that you have to pay for, their protocol and requirements may be quite different in the US. Good luck to you.

I will talk to my PCP tomorrow about getting tanked up for the holidays. "High test/ high octane.. hahaha"... we will see if she will do it. I'll let you know. I figured hospice won't.
