    haha its so true about the weather. In wyoming yesterday it was 17 below and I was whining in california where it was 27 above LOL. I am spoiled now working in CA and avoiding those windy and frigid wyoming winters. I grew up in upstate NY so am very used to the cold. At work yesterday someone on the elevator said- "oh you have a coat for this kind of weather" I was wearing a mid-weight jacket anyone wyoming, new york or canada would wear in the fall hahaha. I told her this was not my winter coat I didn't even bring that one to Cali- got the strangest look.

    Hah! I remember living in San Diego years ago, and going Christmas shopping at the mall wearing a T-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops. REALLY hard to get in the Christmas spirit!


    On the other hand, no one ever wanted to admit there was any bad weather. It could be raining cats and dogs, and they'd say "It's just the Marine Layer!"


    I wore a coat to work one chilly day and everyone stared at me like I was wearing some kind of costume...

    Well, no photo of the evening, but this is a photo of the same outfit I wore (I went for all-out glam in the crushed red silk-velvet, long gown with train) from a few years ago...

    Dinner was magnificent!  Appetizer: Carrot puree with eggplant, zucchini and heirloom tomato; Entree: Lasagna Bolognese; Main Course: Beef Medallions with gravy, Roasted Root Vegetable Medley, Duchesse Potatoes; Dessert: Petits Fours and Tiramisu, espresso and tea.  Selection of wines.

    The meal was served Russian-style (waiters came around with food and one helped oneself) at 8:00 p.m. and lasted until 11:00 p.m.  Then the music pumped up and the young 'uns hit the dance floor.  My honey and I snuck out at 1:00 p.m. while the party was still going strong...

    I love elegant parties!

    GAH!  But I'm getting old!  We were home by about 1:00-1:30 a.m. Saturday morning; I went right to bed and slept through to 9:00 a.m., but it took until TODAY before I felt like I wasn't draggin' my butt around.  What happened to the me that used to be able to do this kind of thing several nights a week?  I'd go home from work, change my clothes, head out to meet friends, not get home until the wee hours of the morning, get up at 6:00 a.m. for the commute into the city, and repeat the next day.  There is no way I could do that now!

    OMG, Selena, you had more energy than I had at 20! Staying out late wasn't a problem back then, but getting up at 6? No way!

    caryn - which print, size did you buy? I can't wait for new prints to be made in sarongs/shawls, tho the style easiest to add to any outfit, which for me means pants, knit shirt ( t in summer, t-neck in winter) linen or corduroy shirt, is the rectangle.

    Bren58 - I can't remember the last time I made it to midnite on New Years Eve! We're in Cali, so we watch the satellite channel covering the hoopla in Times Square.


    Of course, that's 9 p.m. our time! The ball drops, we toast with sparkling cider, and off to bed we go.

    Sunflowers, my dh drives me up a wall on a daily basis, but he is my #1 fan and he is not shy about it either. It is definitely a good thing.

    That dress is simply G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S.  And the hat.  And the coat.

    Caryn... my hair is naturally curly and very blond.  It's my Dutch ancestry peeking out.  Every so often, I dye it a reddish-blond just to alleviate the boredom.  My hair has been so nuts since it grew back in that I've been keeping it really, really short; like the avatar I used to have, just so that I can deal with it.  It's thicker, it's curlier, it's a different texture; none of the old tricks/products work anymore, so super-short pixie it is.  Once it grows out a bit, I look like my head has been sucked by a camel.

    Momine - I LOVE that picture - but can't see much of the dress. High necked jersey, with gorgeous buttoned sleeves, what an ELEGANT era...and the hat, divine.

    Selena - you would LOVE LOVE LOVE a book by Dover Publishing:

    Fashion Drawings and Illustrations from "Harper's Bazar  (sic)" By ERTE ( accent over the last e)

    I got it years ago in the Remaindered section of Barnes & Noble, but expect used bookstores might still have it.

    Curious to see what Momine finds  ;)

    There was a BBC tv series about 2 sisters who designed clothes - can't remember name at the moment - wonderful program.

    I've got an old Harper's Bazaar book on Victorian fashions with etchings from the original magazine.  I drool over it regularly.

    The BBC series was "House of Elliott".  I think.

    I have a Titanic-era formal gown that I've worn to a few dress-up occasions, but I haven't got anything truly Victorian.  Another era I enjoy is the 1940's; the women were so beautifully groomed!  Hair, make-up, nails, hats, gloves, the works.  Love it.
