Abdominal pain

so I never saw breast cancer coming , so my credibility for self diagnose is somewhat unreliable.

I have been having a mild abdominal pain in my right side (level with belly button and up to ribs). It is kind of gnawing, and I have it most of the time, except when sleeping.

Now naturally I think it is cancer (along with every ache and pain) and have had this since September (a month before BC dx).

Dr thought it was diverticulosis. Meds didn't help. Abdominal CT showed all my organs were good. So don't know what it could be. I am having surgery in nine days for my breast cancer, so I don't see any point in seeing anyone about my abdominal ailment.

Sorry this is so long winded......

I am wondering if anyone else had abdominal pain around the time they were diagnosed with BC or if it is a sign it has metastasized.

No swollen nodes, but won't know until sentinel node dissection if it has spread.

I have never heard of pain in the abs being breast cancer... as a matter of fact cancer rarely hurts at all.

Andrea - Sorry that you have been diagnosed.I haven't had this problem and I'm sure somebody will be along to answer better than I can, but with stage one grade one cancer there is a very low probability that it has metastasized. It sounds like the area of concern (for mets) would be your liver and a scan would have shown mets that were large enough to be seen. I'm wondering, did the docs put you on any type of anxiety meds that you might be having a SE from? (((hugs)))

    Hi Andrea,

I have pain across my upper abdomen but the dr's also think it is diverticulitis. However mine doesn't radiate up but across from sternum to right side. (once in awhile all the way across).

I also understand your concern because I share them as well. I hope you find out the reason for the pain and that is has nothing to do with cancer.

    Take care,

jcoldord, sorry to hear about your abdominal pain. Mine is very minor really. Just persistent. It didn't show up on CT so I guess it is minor, if at all.

I am a fellow Canadian too, but from Alberta. Always wanted to travel to the Maritimes though.

    Take care!

thank you ziggypop. That made me feel better. Laughed out loud about the anxiety meds. Then realized you meant possible side effects.

I do have some Lorazapam but have only taken 4 in total. I am so glad that I haven't needed more....but equally glad I have them if I do.

I better take my own advice and just Breathe!

    Take care,

    Andrea
