I LOVE how different we all are. I wore ( so HAPPY FOR YOU kayb) my soft, soft Anohki scarves, they even sold them in the gift shop at Dana Farber in Boston. But my favorite head cover up, was the "camp hat" I also got at DF, with the words "No Hair Day" embroidered on the front brim. Also, had a "clown wig" you must have seen the curly haired all different colors one, I once wore for halloween, took my pic in that to send to friends when they emailed to ask how I was doing.

Also, used face paint, and face crayons to draw on my head. Mostly hearts. But was bald during the summer, when I'd sweat they'd drip. Still, it was fun.

BTW, kayb, if you email Melanie ( who lives in VT) sometimes they have some of the scarves that might not be on website. The rectangular ones sell out the quickest. I love that they're handprinted by women, of course Fair Trade, and so, so soft, but last forever.

    Leah,

You're welcome to borrow mine any time! But, you're right, of all the places I imagined it to have been, Israel wasn't one of them, given that it pre-dates Israel's statehood.

Growing up in NYC, there were, and still are, many orthodox and Haredi communities. Some of the women were killer fashionistas. Their sheitels (wigs) were gorgeous and their clothes flawless. Who says modesty and fashion can't go hand in hand (Well, maybe Lady Gaga) ?

    Sunflowers,

I ordered two scarves as well. Hoping they get here before my big NZ/AUS trip in a bit less than 3 weeks. I've looked at them before but never bought. The discount tipped the balance!

    hi all

wondering what size you got of the scarfs? I want to use it around my neck when I wear a sweater to de-emphasize the disparity in breast size and create a distraction LOL

I purchased, and usually wear the long rectangular size. However during my Pan Am days, we were given both the long rectangle and large square so I learned to tie both in all sorts of ways. For camouflaging breast disparity, a large square would work well since it could drape across a broad area. I think there are probably more than a few YouTube videos that would show you how. Have fun with it!

wyo - there's a "how to wear" guide on the front page of the Anohki page. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the sarongs worn as a shawl, or put in front, one flap over each shoulder, and then the flaps brought front over my concave (with angel wings on each side) chest - the bit around my neck does wonders to hide my chins ...they are the SOFTEST cotton I've ever known. So the result is once around your neck, with two pieces hanging down in front. I am having trouble describing this - HELP, someone.

Funny experience for me, was wearing a sarong as a shawl, tee shirt underneath, to a performance at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival near me in MA, and during the intermission, the dear woman sitting directly behind me tapped me on the shoulder, and said "May I feel your shawl, it looks SO soft." She was delighted with the feel, loved the look, and said she was going home to BUY one too.

They've gotten pricier because of the steep rise in the price of cotton the last 2 years.

thanks- I am more comfortable with the rectangle- did watch a fun video on the nordstrom website on different scarf ties > I just ordered 2- how could I not for that fantastic price and I like the mission of the company too. I am not having chemo at the moment and I wish I had known about these when my mom was going through it- her wigs were awful and she was in florida so hot and sweaty.

wyo - the sarongs are just VERY large rectangles...so sorry about your mom, hope she NEVER needs scarves for head covering purposes again - but the Anohki are lovely for warm weather. I often wear a rectangle ( so often sold out, alas) with a tee shirt inthe summer, it kinda floats gently and takes my attention away from the concave parts, sure no one else notices them, but I FEEL better with a pretty Anohki rectangle floating around...

Goodness, take a couple days off and this thread explodes!! I can't keep up with you ladies - where do you get all the great energy?

So, going backward a little bit - thank you all for your kind words! I loved having hair, but I really loved being bald (and looked pretty good doing it!) I'm 50, and have two amazing grandchildren (V is almost 8, and L is 3). They keep me young. I'm hating how much weight I gained last year during treatment, and (thanks to menopause) can't seem to get rid of it now.

I want to go shoe-shopping with each and every one of you. Now. Because all this shoe porn is making me hot (or maybe that's just a flash...)

My hair used to be straight and VERY thick...now it's a little curly and super-thin. Still feels like baby hair after a year of growing back in. I never thought I'd miss my thick, messy hair.

Love the idea of the long pants/high heels, Selena! I have short legs and a long torso so I always look weird in pants. For a long time I didn't care, but dammit I had cancer so I deserve to look good, right? I stopped wearing heels a few years ago because they were too much work, but now - I'm back on it!

Dang, back to work. I'll check in later and finish catching up. Happy Monday!

Nancy - in several other threads re: hair, several women posted having success in strengthening, etc. their tresses taking a supplement of BIOTIN. Might be an interesting google. I think the whole range of B vitamins is suggested too.

Never had that problem, my hair was always a mop, and returned to being a mop after the Red Devil. Haven't used a hair dryer in more than 12 years, and I think that helps keep hair stronger too.

Now, if only someone could tell me how to STOP these LONG "mutants" growing on my neck - in about 6 places, of course I pluck, but they seem to appear almost overnight...very strange. Does anyone else have that? I don't mean the face fuzz, but genuine "HOW THE HECK DID YOU GET HERE HAIR" - suddenly on my neck...very weird.

I'm happy to say I lost the 2 pounds I gained over Thanksgiving. Now I'm really going to focus, big time, on getting the 5 post Aromasin lbs. off. Been exercising an hour daily, and limiting carbs to 20 per day. I have fought this battle for months, but not as intensely as now. I am totally fed up with carrying this weight around.

Struggling a bit with my hair.  It's got a whole new personality now, so I've just been keeping it ultra-short until I figure out what to do with it.  And it grows so fast now!  It's like - poof! - 2 inches longer.  Prior chemo, my hair was thin and very fine, and grew very slowly.  Now it's like... what are you and why are you on my head thumbing your nose at me?

I have developed a recent liking for cashmere; pashminas, sweaters, gloves.  I love the texture of it; it's so soft!  I just ordered myself a full-length sweater-dress in black cashmere for the holidays.  I wanted something that was comfortable and nice, but not too formal.  And black, always, is slenderizing!

Selena, cashmere is super-nice (and also super-expensive, usually). When it is mixed with silk (=pashmina) it is even better, as well as stronger. For my B-day, my very nice and very cool auntie gave me a super-light cashmere and merino scarf and it is SO nice. Enjoy your dress!

Ah Cashmere. I have several cashmere sweaters that I love to wear. My black one developed a hole in it from wearing it so much, so this year I got a new black one, and picked up a camel colored one while I was at it!

Selena enjoy the dress, I am sure you will look terrific!

So I dealt with the hair loss, the thinning hair when it finally came back, the up and down weights...the two things I am really struggling with are 1. The size of my extremeties thanks to Lymphedema, and 2. I hardly have any eyebrows left. I HATE that! I want my damn eyebrows back!!! After two bouts with the beast, therefore 14 cycles of chemo in all, I have hardly any eyebrow hair. Devil

ah, eyebrows...I remember them :) They were the last thing to go - and strangely, the last thing to come back. AND, when they did, they brought eczema with them!!!!! Aaauugghhhh...never had it before, wonderful dermatologist gave me a liquid hydrocortosone something or other, but it still flakes, itches, and there's more itching than eyebrow. I can empathsize at how important eyebrows seem to be to how we look, now that I hardly have any.

I know someone is going to say "eyebrow pencil" or the powdery stuff, and I repeat - eczema. Ugh. Never had it before bc, and wonder if chemotherapy triggered it? Seems to be when it started, when my eyebrows grew back....strange.

Ah, pashminas, I know they aren't "fashionable" anymore, but oh, they are SO soft, and warm, and since I no longer have a functioning internal thermometer, not exactly hot flashes, but not as it used to be, so I don't wear turtlenecks anymore, and the pashminas are SO soft....isn't it wonderful to be good to yourself ;-)))

Black cashmere dress? Dress? ah, that takes me back years...a dress.

yep, my eyebrows fell out even after I was diligent to use the Brian Joseph Brow and Lash gel everyday all through chemo and a few weeks after. They still have not totally come back, and what did come back is so light you can barely see them. So everyday I paint them on with Anastasia Brow Pen. And I am still waiting for my lashes to come back on my left eye. It's a good thing there is make-up, because without it I look pretty ridiculous!

As for the excema, I used to always get a small patch on the hand every winter, now I have a large patch under my arm on the ALND side.

I just felt the soooooftest cashmere scarf today. My boss got in in turkey I believe. She said it is from the hair under the goat's chin... hmmm I don't know I thought about those little goatee things they have and laughed but seriously this scarf felt like woven butter- just beautiful deep colors too.

I love soft things: cashmere, angora, suede, etc... I just wish that they were easier to care for!

Ah, eyebrows.  My head hair came back in a thick wavy mop; my eyebrows not so much.  Mind you, as a natural, light blond, they've always been a little invisible, but now they are invisible and thin.  Thankfully, I'm not allergic to eyebrow pencil...

wyo - that scarf, if it was a light natural tan, brown camel colour, was probably a shartoosh. Illegal to import to the States for several years. Used to get them from India, northern Pakistan, animals they come from have been on endangered list for years.

First Christmas party of the season tonight.  Trying to decide if I'm going all-out glam (crushed red velvet) or if I'm going to play "subdued corporate wife" (muted amethyst silk).  I love dressing up; the ritual of getting ready makes me feel very feminine.  Long gown or short cocktail dress; pearls or diamonds; and deciding on shoes takes the better part of an hour: gold-toned pumps; silver-and-crystal sandals; black velvet-and brocade mules.  Decisions, decisions!  Borrowed a gold clutch from my mother in case I go with the gold pumps.

This is probably the time of year when I miss having long hair the most.  I have a drawerful of wonderful hair do-dads that I've collected over the years: tortoise-shell combs; velvet bands; crystal hairpins; ribbons; barretts.  With a pixie, they just don't work, but I haven't got the heart to find new homes for them yet.

Selena, I say go for the glam! I have very few occasions to dress up, but it's fun to do when the opportunity arises. So cold here right now all I can think of is bundling up to the hilt. Brrrrrr

I am happy to report that I lost the Thanksgiving pounds plus one more!

SO SO happy many are also enjoying Anohki. I just LOVE the way the cotton "floats" and gives such colour to any outfit, and the sarongs ( think shawls) tied really SO distract from anyone who is still a bit self conscious about having ( as I do) a concave chest with angel wings ( NOT dog ears, I've learned from another thread, but ANGEL WINGS now!)

You can be on their email list - and learn about sales - they have them pretty often, and NEW prints/colours every year or so.

Speaking of fashion....with a giggle...silk long winter underwear starts today snow & ice BE GONE!!!!!!

I miss some things about the east coast, but not long underwear, even silk. It has been unusually cold here, some '30's at night, '50's during the day. People are freaking out. If only they knew what cold really felt like!
