Why don't we have a 10 year survivors and out topic?
I reached my 5 year point and know that many recurrences happen in the 5 to 10 year span. Now I am interested in those who hit 10 years. Hopefully I will be posting some day that I want a 15 year and out topic.

We can start one!! Shall we do that in Acknowledging our members?! -
Not that we're voting, but I'd like to keep it within the Stage III forum. There are a lot of Stage 0, I and II 10-year survivors. -
How about you start a topic then, within Stage III?! -
There are probably some people with stage 4 that are still going after 10 years as well. Just thought that I would throw this in as I know of 1 person who was stage 3 for 5 and a half years and has been stage 4 since then with only bone mets.
Cheers

i was 10 and half years out from stage III before i had a single met to my spine. i don't know if this helps or not. i am doing really well with letrozole and zometa/ stable and will be 12 years out in feb. my health is good and not having major issues except for side effects from treatment. there is a possibility that you can do well. never give up. there are all kinds of treatments now. hang in .

I guess any 10 year survivors are great. I am personally interested in the stage 3 or stage 4 survivors, since that is where I am at. -
Hi Judy, I have started the 10 years and out thread for you.
Moderators, could you please pin the thread?! -
Hi Diana so good to see you and so very happy that single BM is being controlled. I hope the SEs subside for you.
Ladies, I am out 8.5 yrs stage IIIC. and well. -
I am doing well, despite myself. Recently studied my path reports more carefully and now realize I had mixed features--lobular as well as ductal, and my tumor was 8 cm. (I had had a surgical biopsy and then two lumpectomies followed by a mastectomy, so the chunks of the tumor needed to be added up to get the correct size.) My KI-67 was 75%, very high. Very aggressive. No sign of recurrence.
Definitely time for this thread, and, as the stage 3's are piling up the longevity, it will grow. I still come here every day, but don't post as much now since there has not been anything new to add to my story for quite a while now. I plan to keep supporting this thread, however, so it remains active.
I remember people from many years ago who are probably now ten years out, who are no longer active. It is normal for folks to drift away after the initial crisis is over, so our forum erroneously gives the impression there are not many ten year survivors. -
Weesa you truly have a huge heart to keep coming back to give us hope. Your story it what I hang on to in the darkest of times and I thank you. If I am blessed to still be here 10 years out..I want to be you in caring for others and coming back to encourage!! -
My Aunt (not blood related) had 11/20 positive nodes over 7 years ago. She had a lumpectomy and node surgery at Sloan, did chemo and radiation, takes her hormonals, and and is fine now. She takes trips to Vegas and drinks vodka and wine regularly. She is in her 60's.
This is how I choose to help right now. I need to hear and see much more of this kind of thing, rather than the 'It's not if, but when' mentality.
I also make it my mission to help people I know get their family members and friends through chemo with my pointers that can help take it from a miserable experience to a not such a big deal, actually, experience.
My psychiatrist had stage 3 breast cancer 5 years ago. She is doing great and treating people who have had treatment for cancer (like me). She is 40, like me, and we had the same surgeon. She says to me that she believes we are back to being at the same risk for breast cancer as everybody else with all the treatment we've done. I believe that, too. -
I am going on 5 years since my BMX.... However , I have a friend who was dx 11 years ago.... Big tumor .... 11 pos nodes !!
She did her mastectomy , chemo, rads, and 5 years of Arimedex ... 11 years later not just surviving but, fully thriving!!!!
BC does not inevitably come back, that is just not true!! Women are living and thriving for years!!!! Don't live as if it will come back! Live and if and only if it comes back you will cope and deal with it if you need too! If you live as if this disease will eventually take your life, you are not truley living! So , BC wins.... We have so much to be grateful for, our treatment now as compared to 10-15 years ago is so much better! Think of what we will have in (5 more years!
Fists up girls , we have a lot of living to do!!!!! I will be posting in 6 years!!!! I promise!!!!!:) -
Weesa YOU ROCK! Love seeing your posts
