Coffee Pods

Does anyone have concerns about using the plastic coffee pods such in the Keurig, Senseo or other machines?

I drink coffee made in a Keurig several times per week, and love the convenience, so your question prompted me to investigate.  From what I read the water reservoir in a Keurig does not contain BPA and neither do the k-cups themselves.  The cup itself is not heated, only by the water flowing through it as the coffee is made.

Yes, I don't use the pods. I've made the decision to avoid plastic as much as possible, especially plastic with heat. (so, among other things, I ditched my Mr. Coffee and bought a stainless steel percolator). For making single cups or when traveling, I use a ceramic coffee filter. I bought mine at a kitchen store but I've seen them at Whole Foods, too.

I know some plastics are thought to be safe but...it's possible we may learn otherwise in the future. Plus, reducing our use of plastic is better for the environment as well.

I'm another one concerned about plastics and heat.

For single servings, we do have our old Folgers Singles... like coffee in a teabag. Meh!

I also have a French Press for that wonderful freshly ground coffee... and my antique Chemex pot that looks like a piece of science equipment!

Plastics are filled with endocrine disrupters.  Xenoestrogens are especially problematic for anyone with a er/pr positive tumor.  I put a fair amount of diligence into reducing plastic in my home, and I'm still surrounded by it -- she typed, on her plastic keyboard.

I have wondered about this as well and have looked into using a french press for that reason.  I haven't made the switch yet.
