hi all - I didn't think DCIS presented with a lump? I'm petrified they've got it wrong and it's invasive? Have MRI on Monday which will determine size and spread and type of treatment I need. I was diagnosed 21st nov so still having that weird outer body experience and paranoid about absolutely everything! X

I'm sorry Jonesy, but at the moment for you its a waiting game for the MRI and all I can suggest is to try and not dwell on what it may or may not be. The lump could be a cyst or a benign fibroidenoma but you will know more after the MRI. We all know the waiting is horrible hun, the mind goes to all sorts of places, but for your own sanity try not to think too much - find a numb place and see how you go on Monday. Good luck and please make sure you let us know how you get on.

It is definitely not unheard of to have your dcis appear as a lump. I had no calcifications, just an enlarged milk duct which felt like a little lump - which over a period of 6 months morphed into a more lump-like clogged milk duct, clogged with dcis and dead cell debris.

Hi Jonesy, DCIS can definitely present with a lump. I read that statistically, there may be a slightly greater chance of recurrence with a palpable lump vs. a diagnosis derived from mammographic findings. Have you already had a lumpectomy or just the stereotactic biopsy? The lumpectomy will be better at ruling out IDC, but as quoted by Beesie (if this is any consolation to you), although 20 percent of the time after the lumpectomy or mastectomy they find IDC, most of the time it's microinvasion (very very tiny). Only 5 percent of the time do they find IDC greater than 1mm. Best of luck.

hi Jersey, my DCIS was diagnosed because it was a palpable lump ... seen on ultrasound, not seen on screening mammograms. Diagnostic mammogram had found a distortion in another part of my breast, which ended up being benign (ADH) - no IDC found after lumpectomy.

I am hoping for the same good fortune, and health, for you .
