I was doing the same thing. When it felt heavy I would empty it. I'm gonna try just the twice a day for the next few days. Good idea and I'm up for anything at this point!
Happy Friday! -
Today the Oncologists and skin care nurse were going to pull my drain tube, I was only 30cc yesterday and only 15cc by time I saw them today. But they checked with the surgeons nurse and she said NO! She said now he wants people to be down to 20cc two days before pulling!
-
vaper just a bit longer. I know it's disappointing but you are almost there. Hang in there!!! Much love. -
hmmm I hope it does not fall out on its own.... ( I will deny suggesting this) -
I'm sorry vaper! I know it frustrating, hang in there I'm in the same boat with ya! I'm trying to hang in there too and I know at this point its not easy, hut we can do it!
I tried not emptying the drain more frequently yesterday. I only did the morning and at night, I still drained 47.:-( I'm gonna try again today.
God bless you guys and thanks! -

mrsparsley, Thank you dear for your encouragement! I am sorry your drainage did not slow down. I hope it does soon!
I was 30 yesterday, but started out with 20 today instead of 10 like the 2 days before. -
vaper, it's trending in the right direction. Just remember not to over do it! Weekends trip you up. LOL -
DRAIN TUBE OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! And it did not hurt at all coming out! -
-
Yay Vaper! Allelulia!!!!! -
yay. Congratulations. -
Yeah drain is gone!!!! glad you got rid of that thing- now on to the next loop in the roller-coaster -
Thank you sweet sisters!
mrsparsley, Is your drainage going down any dear? Could you take off work for a while? I just reread everything here and see where you said the doc said stuff some gauze in the ace bandage. The second time the skin nurse wrapped me she took a hand full of gauze separated all the squares, shock them to fluff them then put them under the ace bandage where my breast use to be to fill that area in. It was a good hand full. When I laid down that night it was not comfortable where some was in the back, I had to pull it around to the front with the rest. I am still wearing the ace bandage. They said a few more days. -
Week 9.
my drainage is down a little but not enough. I see the dr today. I used the stuffed toy softball as compression all day sunday and monday. I think it helped but we'll see. My drainage is from the removal of my lymph nodes so I wore that ball under my arm in my arm pit. I could stop working but I already had the whole month of sep off and really need to work in case I need more time during chemo. Idk what else to do but hopefully today I will know something new.
Yes moonflwr stupid drains!! ;-)
Fingers crossed and prayers said! -
Well dr is gonna pull my drain friday. I have been trending in the mid to low 30's the past few days. I still use the ball for compression and I think it has really helped. I start chemo on monday! I anxious but ready to be moving on!
;-) -
YAY! It is so nice to have drain out! I of course still worry about fluid building up! I am still wearing ace bandage. Now I had a reaction to the second antibiotic. It makes my defective metabolizing gene matabolize even less so there is no telling how much pain medicine is built up in me! I had bad chest and stomach pain. Everyone needs to get that CYP2D6 gene test! That is why so many people are dying from drug interactions! -
so I had my drain out on friday even though I wasn't under amount they wanted. I seem be doing okay. I think I have some fluid build up but not a lot. I still wear ace bandage more for myself than anything else. My drain sight is still sore but afternit being in place for 9 weeks what could I expect.
I started my chemo yesterday. All went well I was really nervous but for no reason at the time. I did have a headache all afternoon and into evening. I wasn't sure if ot was the chemo and meds or that I only had 1 cup of coffee, or that I didn't sleep well the night before, or that I of course was stressed. Today is a little better I did go to work until I have to leave for my shot of neulasta. My chest and face are bothe red.? I read it could be from the decadron but will ask when I see them in a bit. I also felt a little anxious this morning maybe also from the decadron. I haven't taken my second dose yet for today. I might wait till I see them.
Hope everyone is doing well!
Happy Thanksgiving! -
mrsp, keep drinking water. You are actually aiming for a gallon a d ay. Stat on top of the meds. Don't try to brave it out. At first sign of nausea take the meds. So much easier to keep it away than to recover. Good luck. -
I have been drinking so much water I feel like ill burst! ;-) I spoke to nurse and she said yes the chemo or steroid could be the cause of the red hotness on my chest and face. I went ahead and took the other dose after the appt , good excuse to have hubby take me out to eat! So far I haven't been nauseous, knock on wood, but chemo nurse said that it might kick in in a few days. Thanks for the tips! Happy thanksgiving! -
Happy Thanksgivjng! -
Hello everyone, new to this site. I was taking a chance and googling, "my JP drain is still draining too much" and came across this.Although I am so sorry we are all having issues, it is nice to know I am not alone. I have surgery on Nov 7 with lumpectomy and axillary node dissection, (13 nodes), had a drain placed, then went back again on 11/14/2013 for a second surgery to clean up the margins of the tumor. I am waiting for radiation and chemo. I am so wanting to get this all over with! But this JP is truly holding me up. Tomorrow, I will meet my oncololy radiologist, and thought I cold stop by the Dr's and have this drain removed, but that's not going to happen. I think what concerns me more than anything, is, is my skin growing around this tube? and if so what in the world is it going to feel like when I finally do have it removed! I am still over 80 per 24 hours, although it does seems to be going down each day. I went back to work this past Monday after being out 2 weeks, and it was 130 that day! It has gradually gone down, but I am not there yet...I don't detect an odor, but I sure think I need a new clear bandage and a new bottle. (this one has white sludge at the top!). So anyway, I sure do sympathize with everyone, and I am glad I am not alone!!
-
break when do you see your dr? I saw my P'S every week until the drains were out. My drains were removed at around 5 weeks.and there you do the more they drain. Hence the uptick the first day back. -
I have not got any e-mails of updates on here! I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.
brenk, welcome! Sorry you have that drain still! I know how it is!
That bulb (bottle), mine got really gross! They never changed it!
What clear bandage do you mean? Is it holding your drain tube?
I to thought my skin must be growing around hat tube! But it was not painful at all when it was pulled out. The nurse told me to take deep breaths, I did, and it was out quick.
I still wonder about my swelling right above where drain tube was. It is not a lot, but hard. -
Thank you moonflwr...I went back to the Dr this past Monday, just so he could take a look. He re-bandaged, and said it looked unusually clean. (guess I'll take that as a compliment). I asked if there was anything I could do to slow it down. He said the only thing he could think of was not to squeeze the bottle so much. In the hospital, I was told to squeeze and fold, then plug. The Dr. told me to just squeeze. So since Monday, I have come lower than the 80's and continue to come down (very slowly) each day. I guess it's like losing weight, better to lose a little then none at all? I am scheduled to have it removed and have the mamosite placed Dec 11th. IF IF IF the drainage is down....
-
Hi TN USA....the bandage is the clear piece of like tape they place over the gauze. I did get good news, though, the tube he placed does NOT allow your skin to grow around, so no fear there!!! I ended up filling my little empty bottle (the drain bottle), with hot water, shaking the heck out of it, and getting that sludge out. If I must be stuck with it for a while, it's gonna be clean, darn it!!
-
brenk, lol. Drains suck. Figuratuvely as well as litterally.... LOL -
how long did you have your drain? Mine has been on 6 weeks..still at 45 to 50 cc day
I'm a scheduled for chemo on 2 wewks.. can you have chemo with drain in? I don't think I'll ever drop!!

Your Drs are the bones to ask - we are each unique and not all Drs TX the same for all.
In my case, my UMX was 2 weeks after last neoadjuvant A/C. One drain was removed about 14 days after surgery. I started adjuvant weekly Taxol 3 weeks after surgery with 1 drain still in - it was removed a week later. I was still having higher drainage than idea to remove it but Surgeon thought that it (the drain) was probably causing 'irritation drainage' so he removed it. Quickly developed a fairly large seroma that was still 6 cm (seen on CT with contrast) 12 weeks later. It had no effect on my Chemo plan at all. But we are each different so check with your Drs.
