Elective Mastectomy Share Your Story

Hello,

My name is AmyLynn I am 47 years old and I chose to have an elective mastectomy in May of 2011. I chose this route as I had atypical lobular hyperplasia. I also lost my sister age 41 to stage IV BC in May of 2011. My mother was diagnosed three months ago with stage I BC two months ago. I chose a bilateral mastectomy with immediate implants during the same surgery. It was an eight hour surgery. I had good results but I had a hard time healing on my left breast so it was A LOT of doctor visits until it healed. The implant had to be removed and the pocket enlarged so it could heal more easily. I would love to hear other stories of women who chose elective mastectomy as a preventive measure to decrease the risk of breast cancer.
