Yeah, that is me in what I used to call "chemo chic" :D

Selena, definitely one hot witch and pft about shoes being for walking in. Although I do have quite the collection of walking shoes as well, truth be told.

Yorkie, you definitely do NOT look like a grandma. Good for you!

Wow you guys look great. I am vain but not to the point I don't leave the house w/o makeup and in fact I do it all the time. I like the reaction to the people I see at another time when I have makeup on, hair looking great and dressed really nice. They cant believe the transformation. I do have my hair woven - med brown with blond highlights. I dress to the nines when we are going to dinner, etc., but seriously look like I have been swabbing the decks around the house. I had a friend who said she wore makeup all the time for her husband. Not doing that. Love him but he looks like a homeless person around the house sometimes so....I do like to have my nails done and in fact had the full set yesterday. I know no one will see my feet, hopefully, but just didn't seem like a finished job w/o both. The Vietnamese ladies who own the shop know I am a challenge for a pedicure. I don't wear shoes around the house - socks maybe and I just love to go barefoot. I used to be embarrassed by my not so clean feet which I do scrub all I can at night but not anymore. I tip them well. I think we all deserve to primp and be pampered. What great results we get from all that...diane

    Yorkie...  you are HOT!!!

Sunflowers... yeah, sometimes I wonder how I "... sprang ..." from my mother's loins.  She and my elder sister are peas-in-a-pod: minimalist (their houses feature, like, a single chair, lamp, plant and they consider it decorated), practical, earthy, flat-shoes-and-trousers kinda gals).  Me?  Full-blown, unashamed Victorian.  They both call my century-old, antique-stuffed house a "... house of horrors ..." because all they can think of is "... all that crap needs DUSTING..."  [Horrified eyeroll.]  To which I reply, "... yeah?  So? ..."

HOSEIRY.  Lovelovelove hosiery.  Fine denier stockings.  And I'm so excited that Cuban-heeled, French-seamed stockings are coming back in style!  #slobber

    Momine, Selena and Yorkiemom,

Wow! So beautiful in addition to being such smart cookies.

    Momine- glamour incarnate

Selena- beautiful red hair and porcelain coloring that reminds me of my late mother

Yorkiemom- the biggest surprise since your avatar, as far as I can remember, has always been that cute pup. If people say I look too young to be a grandmother, you have me best by a mile. So nice to "see" you.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! I'm off to make my mom's recipe for butternut squash casserole. Although we lived on separate coasts. We always spoke on a Thanksgiving day and discussed menus, recipes and everything food. She's not only the woman who taught me to cook, but the woman who (tried) to teach me to look good. As I mentioned, I was a slow learner :) BTW, she was buried sporting her first gel polish mani. She had gotten it for my dd's wedding and loved it. Miss you mom.

I think gel nails is the greatest invention since baked bread! Never, ever, ever want to give them up!

Oh, I should note that in the picture I still have my boobs and a bit of chub. It was during the neo-adjuvant chemo.

Yes, Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends.  May you all bask in the love of family, good food and great shoe sales!

Haven't tried gel nails.  My fingernails are a mess since chemo - brittle, slightly discoloured - my toenails fared much better.  Been afraid to try false nails; I was afraid that the glue would make my real nails even worse.  How do gel nails work?

exbrxgrl... THANKS!!  This mutual love-in has really made my day.  It's so nice to focus on something frivolous and fun and GIRLY.  Vanity UNITE!

    Selena,

I collect metal mesh purses, mostly Whiting&Davis and Mandalian. My favorites are from the Edwardian and flapper era. They are true works of art. I also have a few pre-1900 chatelaine purses. You would appreciate them!

    Nancyhb,

Dansko clogs are like no others in terms of comfort. Millions of doctors, chefs and teachers will swear to it!

OOOooooooo.  Those purses are so pretty!  I have a vintage, needlepoint one from the forties, but nothing as nice as that!

I think what it is is that we've been through so much with treatment we come to the realization that these little things - pedicures, manicures, hosiery, spending a day getting your hair done - become moments of immense grace and pleasure.  We, finally, clue into the truth underlying that L'Oreale marketing phrase, "... because I'm worth it ..."

    Yes, I am.

Hey bitches, ooops, I mean WITCHES :D do what you want, but don't step on my blue suede shoes (just came back from shopping, had to share). The skirt is silk tweed in brown, beige and blue, the patterned blue thing is a very light wool scarf, brown tights and a blue T. We have a T-day dinner tonight:

Brnx, I looked up those vintage purses and now I am really jealous too. They are great. I keep toying with the idea of making evening purses, because every time I try to buy one, I am seriously underwhelmed by the available choices.

Love the shoes, Momine! They even look like something even my feet could tolerate, for five minutes at least. The whole ensemble is just gorgeous! I sure you were stunning in it.

Yorkie, they are actually quite comfortable, thanks to the heavy rubber sole in the front. Oh, and thanks! The dinner is not till tonight.

Yes, that was what made me think I could wear them. What brand are they?

Yorkie, they are from my favorite Greek shoe company - Vavoulas. They use local leather, which is very good quality, and their shoes are usually fully lined in goat skin, for example. The shoes are also cut to have enough room across the knuckles. Unfortunately the Vavoulas people are not very good about marketing their wares abroad, so I doubt you can find their stuff outside Greece.

They do have a fairly miserable FB page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Vavoulas-Shoes/181627621862869

Yorkie, you may want to check out Clark's. It is an English company, but huge and worldwide. They are known for decent quality and comfort and have started making some very cute shoes (in the old days they were distinctly orthopedic-looking).

Thanks all, nothing like pretty shoes to lift the mood, I say.

Selena, my mother introduced me to silk tweed, because she and my dad used to travel to India fairly regularly and would bring back wonderful fabrics. I think my dad even had a raw silk Nehru suit that he had sewn in Mumbai. Oy!

Wow - those Whiting & Davis purses are gorgeous!! I make beaded chatelaines, and quirky fabric purses. Okay, just realized I also have a purse fetish. Dammit - I thought I was low maintenance. My husband will not like this.

I'm feeding my other fetish, and getting myself a pair of Dansko clogs for Hannukah. I'm using my post-cancer foot-pain as an excuse to purchase new shoes (who would deny me that?) Thanks for the suggestions!

So I've never posted a picture of myself to any of these forums, but I like to be like the cool kids. So here's a before-chemo picture (I had my hair cut the next day in preparation for it to fall out...)

And then the Sunday before my final radiation, at the Color Run with my lovely daughter:
