Thanks, ladies. I was actually more worried before I knew than I am now. Instead of worrying "what if...", I can start to plan "what's next...". Funny how that works.
I think the hardest parts were telling my husband, because he worries so much about me, and of course my Mom. She *really* didn't want this to be something that we had in common.
I had my second-look ultrasound after the MRI today. They decided to do a core needle biopsy of one area, which I can barely feel as a lump, now that I know where it is (12mm across). The radiologist said it has "some benign characteristics", but it's not a bad idea to check it out, especially given my family history. They're just going to monitor the other area, and have me come back in 6 months for another MRI, because is doesn't show up on the mammograms or ultrasounds.
If you're the praying type, say a prayer that it's just a fibroadenoma or something!
The preliminary results are in already: a benign fibroadenoma. My follow-up plan is an MRI in 6 months, to monitor the other area shown on the MRI. I do not need a mammogram in 6 months, because nothing else shows up on the mammogram anyway.
This is great news. It's the first good news we've gotten so far. Yay!
