Hi, zohra - I am 100% ER+, and I have no restrictions on what I eat. My MO did suggest that instead of drinking all soy milk like I was, she'd prefer I switch to almond, coconut, rice milk, or even Lactaid (lactose-free milk).

I think the worry comes from foods (like meats) that are fed or produced with hormones, and that this may possibly affect hormone positive cancers.

My MO (who is a dedicated researcher as well as an MD) says there are no clearly definitive studies showing that any particular processed foods are responsible for making cancer cells grow.

Her recommendation is to eat healthy, eat natural, cook my own foods instead of fast food or processed foods, and eat moderate portions and get plenty of exercise. Instead of taking a bunch of supplements, I make sure I get enough nutrients in the food I eat.

There are many threads here about the kinds of food people eat - some do the "Anti-Cancer" diet, some do the "Paleo" diet, some are vegan or vegetarian... I am gluten-free and preservative-free.

Red meat is generally hard on the kidneys, and can contribute to the inflammatory response in the body, but eaten in moderation, should be o.k. Chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, all are part of a balanced diet as long as you pay attention to how they are raised, and if there are any chemical additives. Some fish is very healthy, others come from areas where there is much pollution. (For example, wild Alaskan salmon is better for you than farm-raised salmon.)

I'm sure there will be others along to share their diet and meal tips. We are all very different.

Eat what you want. Of course, for overall health we should all be eating more fruits, veggies, less red meat, less processed foods etc. I think the two most important things you can do for yourself as an estrogen positive woman is to exercise, exercise, exercise; because exercise turns fat into muscle, (fat is a big estrogen factory), and get yourself down to an appropriate weight, for the same reason. Also limit alcohol consummation...alcohol counts as a 'fat'.

You need protein; fish, turkey, chicken are all fine. If you can get free range etc. that is good but I wouldn't stress about it. You need calcium. Like Blessings say, too much soy is probably not good. I eat a lot of yogurt & drink skim milk. Personally, I think the most important thing is to be moderate in your diet. I would not be stressed about it. Eating or not eating any particular food every once and awhile is not going to make any difference. Since I LOVE food, I am not going to let some crazy 'only eat things that taste horrible' diet run my life. I will mostly be good, but am looking forward to dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy and several pieces of pie on Thursday!

I agree with Ruth and Blessings. I am also ER+ and today my ONC said I would need to start with Arimidex. In addition, I must loose about 35 pounds. I used to drink soy milk and ate soybeans and other things made out of soy. I made a decision to stop all items containing soy simply because everything I have read about soy affects a women's body as far as estrogen is concerned. Also my insurance co gave me some documentation when first diagnosed and the literature to stop soy intake. Again, this was my decision.

I agree with all of the above, exercise and a balanced diet, avoid soy, you might also want to get your vitamin D levels checked and add calcium supplements. But make sure to talk to your MO about any supplements, over the counter meds, or prescription meds that you plan to use or are using. I'm guessing that you're on tamoxafin or an AI & there are many thinks that can interfer with the actions of them.
