Bread pudding!!! Warm, with vanilla sauce or whipped cream. Unfortunately, now I have to make mine with gluten-free bread.

(Used to be mashed potatoes with lots of butter, then rich ice cream, but now I'm kind of hooked on the bread pudding. I think it's a Grandma thing.)

i'm supposed to have bloodwork drawn Monday for my Internal Med doc. After doing pretty well for months on low carb I'm feeling I could eat a vat of mac & cheese or fettucine alfredo. Go figure...

mrenee68 - That was always my best reason for comfort food: a stressful doctor's appointment. I totally deserved a treat!!!

And if something really hurt, I'd stop at the Planet Java coffee cart in the hospital lobby for a big iced chai latte on the way out!!! Cool, creamy, soothing....

Juilanna,,,how did cheese grits make it to Oregon. Best with Tillamook sharp cheddar. I lived in Yachats and would make them every Sunday for friends at the local coffee shop. Are you from the South?

But my new "have pity on me food" Chocolate eclairs.

    momoftwo,

I married a man whose family is from South Carolina. We met in Denver. I hadn't had grits before but mom cooked polenta. His mom introduced me to grits and it was love at first bite!. Tillamook cheese is the BEST!

Of course, anything chocolate is like a big hug!

Japanese takeout: udon noodles, miso, inari (tofu pockets stuffed with rice), and those big fancy sushi rolls.

Spaghetti and meatballs. Or baked potato.

Of course, the ultimate for me is somebody making me dinner. Doesn't matter what, just that they care.

Blessings... poutine is a Quebecois invention and it is truly and wickedly sinful.  Heart-attack-on-a-plate.  But, oh!  Pure bliss... I haven't had it in years and my mouth is watering just thinking of it.

White toast with homemade buttercream icing got me through chemo. Though I want some poutine now. The best ones are made with chip wagon fries, chese curds on top and under the fries with just the right gravy.

no gravy, but the Southwestern version of cheese fries are pretty great too. Fresh cut fries, glued together with tons of shredded melted cheddar, crumbled bacon, scallions, and sour cream or ranch dressing to dip them in. Sliced jalapenos optional...

Another French-Canadian specialty....pea soup. I make mine with parsnips (plus all the normal stuff), and have been making my way through a vat I cooked over the weekend. Beyond delish. My great-grandmother included mace, and so do I.

Better than Habitant, although that will do in a pinch.

I made oxtail stew for the wine bar crowd so didn't have to eat the whole vat, plus major brownie points. They were impressed. As the occasion was Halloween, I made it with Pumpkin Ale.

I make Christmas Puddings with brandy butter/hard sauce. So will get that operation up and running in a couple of weeks. I have one from last year to get me primed. Having pumpkin custard for breakfast tomorrow. Made from scratch starting with slaying the pumpkin.

Tonight's dinner is sauteed pork chop with roasted carrots and potatoes plus Brussels sprouts. I think a fine late autumn meal. Will have poached pears for dessert.

No....salads are nowhere near the top of my list for this time of year. Happy indulging! - Claire

p.s. I make sure I get out there on the running trail, bicycle path, and ski run to negate some of the damage.

MelissaDallas ... O.M.G.  YUM!  I'm truly salivating here.

    Claire ... LoveloveLOVE pea soup!

Dinner last night for us was roasted, herbed chicken with sauteed Brussels Sprouts (shredded fine) in olive oil with celery and shallots.  Tonight, I'm open to suggestions...

ooooh, those cheese fries sound delicious! It's a cold day here and I might just have some pea soup for lunch, it will be Habitant though.

Last night dinner consisted of turkey, quinoa and zucchini meatloaf with a salad. Not exactly comfort food but still darn tasty! Reading about your healthy dinners is giving me motivation to do the same, your dinners sound wonderful.
