DIEP 2013

Goldie, I had to give away my $32 container of whey protein because I realized it contained soy. I need to find a soy-free protein. Any suggestions, anyone? -
Sharon and Goldie-
The Lifetime Basics Plant Protein I posted above has no soy in it. I get it at Amazon - here's the link...
It has NO soy, 22g of protein, and is sweetened with Stevia and Xylitol so its totally vegan. My Naturopathic Oncologist wants me to stay away from commercial animal proteins and only eat organic free range stuff. A lot of the whey proteins end up with soy in it - tough to find one that doesn't - so this one is nice and I have Amazon Prime so I get free 2 day shipping which is nice. It cost me like $30 at the docs office. -
Thanks, Dyvgirl! I'll order some! I need protein since I'm a vegetarian & have been since childhood. -
Cool! They also have unsweetened and chocolate versions too... -
Whey protein has soy in it? I am going to the pantry to read the label right now...ugh!!! -
NOW Egg Protein - 20 gm per serving, no soy - Just pop it into a smoothie or mix it into your V-8. Also, when I am pushing protein - try snacking on smoked salmon or herring (Costo for both). Always have a bit of good fat whenever you are eating (even with V-8) as it aids in digestion. 90 mg protein is a challenge. i am 2 weeks out and need to get on the ball with the protein push. Also need to add 1000 mg Vitamin C and 50 mg Zinc w/2 mg Copper to help with healing. Yikes, two weeks is around the corner! -
Well, thanks anyway Dyvgirl, but the protein powder you use has xylitol and fructose in it. I can't use it. -
What is the problem with xylitol & fructose, Goldie? -
Sharon, my protein powder snuck that soy protein in on me...ugh.
Okay, going to look at the other one's that have been recommended. -
Sharon, I don't do well with xylitol. It does something to my lower intestines...lol. -
Goldie,
Lifetime basics has a non sweetened one also, shouldn't have either xylitol or fructose or stevia. Let me check... -

Try this one. No sweeteners at all... -
Chiming in..if you do like stevia www.sweetleaf.com they have 17 flavors of sweetdrops....love the hazelnut in my coffee and the root beer plus vanilla creme in sparkling water!
I am down 10 lbs!!!! Yippee!
-
Dyvgirl, I can do stevia. It took some getting use to because it does have an after taste, but it's better than nothing. Thank you so much for the research. You are a real sweetie.
Bailey, are those the kind of drops you use to make plain water taste good? There is no protein in them right? -
Hmm, Bailey. I just went to the Sweet Leaf site. That sound good. Have you ever put them in plain yogurt. I love flavored yogurts but they are full of sugar. I wonder if I could tolerate it with these drops? -
lahela - well I'm glad your pain is arthritis and nothing worse. Worrying about mets is terrifying.
goldie - I hope you are right and that Santa brings me an appointment for a nipple sooner. The PS's PA said if someone cancels a DIEP surgery, that opens up a whole day, and in that event she would schedule a whole bunch of smaller procedures like mine. Crossing my fingers...
sweetpickle - Hey! Feel like I have not "seen" you in a while! So glad you got a date for your stage 2!
Lesley, your story is heartbreaking. To go through cancer, and now this scary wound issue. Wounds like that are no joke. Sounds like you have a good team of experts caring for you right now, which is just what you need.
DebDylan, I hope your consult in a few weeks goes well. I can't imagine how frustrating it is to hear the other surgeon wants to wait a year before doing anything. I get the logic but...wow.
nihahi - "Make a different choice." I love it! That's going on the white board on my office door tomorrow. Very powerful!
Anyone know how long the nipple has to heal, before they can do the tattooing? By the time my new boob is done, I'll probably be old and have droopy boobs and not care how they look anymore anyway. -
Christina, my PS says wait 3 months after the nipple is done to get the tattoo. I get my tattoo Dec.19th! -
hi
I had a bilateral diep 3 weeks ago. & was wondering how long it takes for the swelling to go down , in particular under my armpits - cant put my arms straight to my side. It is getting me down as I cant get a bra to fit properly & it looks very unsightly. I am aware swelling reduction takes time but is there hope at the end of the tunnel?
Many thanks -
Sharon, I am so glad you answered Christina, because I was going to tell her to ask you...lol
Christina, I just know somebody is going to decide to do their DiEP after the holidays, and you can get your nipple. -
Holmlea,
Three weeks is still so early. It's also a turning point as far as energy and mobility - at least in my case. But it may take longer for your new breasts to settle. Try to be patient - it's worth the wait. At three weeks I was still wearing camisoles. And then I found a nice front closing cotton bra. For the time being , you might have to be content with something nice and soft that holds everything in place. The good fit will come later. And the great boobs! Yes, there is hope at the end of the tunnel, and the tunnel isn't that long -
Hey Sisters!! I have had a difficult time posting due to mobile device. I am back home on the laptop!! I have some catching up to do but just wanted everyone to know PRMA in SA was great! I actually feel comfortable with the doctor and will have DIEP there. It will be in 2014 and I am hopeful to start in February. I am open to what will be done and just pray that things will just fall-in-place.
I enjoyed my grandsons tremendously!! Trevor made "kissing sounds" to me and loved my socks. He rolls to get around!! Edward's book I made had to be read downstairs(not in bedroom) because he knows each page co-orindates with the lyrics of "What does the fox say?". I am so glad I made it for him.
Well, I am going to call it a day! Have a great night!! Kat -
bailey....woohoo on the 10 lbs!!!! .
christina....cancellations happen!!! I got my recon date because someone cancelled. Otherwise, I'd still be waiting for the initial surgery!! Keeping everything crossed for you.
goldie....I can't do artificial sweeteners either....a definite no-no for my tummy.
holmlea....yep, 3 weeks is way early in the healing process, but also often a significant milestone in starting to feel a bit more human. If you were a bmx with immediate diep recon, it might be a longer process for you, based on the what others here seem to report. If you had implants or TE removed, that adds a different scenario too. Are you allowed to be exercising your arms and working to regain your ROM? That often helps to start get the fluids moving around. There are lots of stages to get through, and sometimes it may feel like you're going backwards, but each stage is actually just "different" from the one before. Swelling comes and goes, moves around from one area to another...just part of the process. Hope you join in the conversations here, there are lots of understanding "ears" and shoulders. -
Milkyway---I was a 38B prior to UMX and am now a 36D. I wear the Medium in the Bali 3488. It has a chart on the tag which is pretty close. I was right on the border and sized up which ended up being perfect since in the 11 months since MX and 8 months since EX, I have changed alot in my size! And I still have one native nipple (getting the new one day after tomorrow!) and the Bali keeps that nip from showing. 11 months now and this Bali bra is the only one I can wear. Every underwire starts to hurt after a couple of hours. I have the Bali in about 8 different colors and have learned to wear them much like a tank top under a vneck or button up top. Unless I find a really comfy underwire, I may be in my Bali bras forever, so I hope they don't quit making them!! -
Lala1
If you go back a couple of pages you will see the letter I wrote to Bali about their bras, and how much they mean to so many of us. If you don't mind, I would love to copy your post, and add it to the next letter I sent to them. I was not happy with the formula reply I got from them this morning. I am going higher up the corp. chain. I really think they need to know how much the comfort of this bra means to us, and I don't even mind if the get on freaking PINK bandwagon with it, just keep making the bra. -
Nope, never tried it in yogurt, Goldie, but I don't see why not. I have the Valencia Orange flavored ones. Tonight I put ice, a whole orange and drops of orange sweet drops and coconut sweet drops in the Ninja and blended it up into an orange smoothie.....a 50 calorie orange smoothie!
-
I use this protein shake made from peas. The vanilla tastes good and I just drink it down. It has 20 grams of protein. -
I had my post op appointment today. Everything looks fine and on track. They told me that it would probably be best to wait a few months to see if more fat grafting will be needed and then do the nipple. I am fine with that cause I'm tired of tearing up my body. Uggg. My tail bone still hurts really bad but my lipo legs are feeling better. How soon after inner thigh lipo can you you take fast walks? Anyone know? I forgot to ask today. -
thank you lala 1 yesterday i bought bali 3488 i wont b able to go to mall my surger y will b on 26 november
-
Bailey, that's sounds yum!!! Hey, do you like your Ninja? I am thinking about getting one. My old Kitchenaid is losing it's get up and go..
Mammalou, is you implant feeling better? What did the PS say about it? I am curious about the thigh lipo too, because that is where they are taking my fat from for my fat grafting. BTW...where did they use the fat on you? I am sorry about your tailbone. Bone bruises really do take a while to go away. Are you absolutely sure you didn't fracture it? Even if you did, I don't think they can do anything about it, but it could be why it hurts so much. -
Love the Ninja. Been really helping with the weight loss.
