Anyone receiving vit D therapy?
I tested low and just picked up a prescription for 50,000iu's once a week. My onc prescribed D2 though - and from. What I understand, D3 is more effective. Just wondering if anyone is doing this, and which type you're taking - and I'm curious if it relieved any kind of symptoms?

Many of us take D. From what I've read, D2 is the synthetic version, which is one reason you such huge doses of it. It's just not as readily absorbed as D3.
I think it's great that your onc is testing for and recommending supplementing with D, but he may not be up on the most recent research. You may want to share articles like these with him.

You don't need an RX for D3. Deanna -
thanks for those links - I will check them out! Yeah, I guess I could take my own D3 - it would just be a lot of pills to get up to the 50,000 though. The pharmacy only filled a one month supply, so I may see if he will switch it for the remaining time. -
I'm not a doctor, but I doubt if you need 50,000 of D3! Those high doses are usually for D2 because of the poor absorption issue. I'm guessing a considerably lower dose of a high quality, natural D3 from a reputable natural supplement manufacturer (not a drugstore brand) would be comparable.
I also heard a discussion not too long ago on XM Doctor Radio where an expert stated that we can't absorb more than 2500 IUs of D at a time.
Can you strive to get more sunshine, without sunscreen or sunglasses, both of which cut our absorption. Also maybe look for a naturopathic, integrative or functional medicine doctor to guide you. Just my suggestions... Deanna -
mushrooms have lots of D2(?) especially if you dry them in the sun, or perhaps as I've done under a natural spectrum light bulb. available from the internet + -
I had been taking D before this, and eating a lot of foods with D in them, but I've gotten so low that it wasn't enough. Sunshine in Wisconsin will be pretty nonexistent until we get some January highs - but I won't want to be outside then! At least not with bare skin. Although I might be able to during a hot flash... -
I recently switched to this brand and hope I will absorb it better. Recommended by my nutritionist. Biotics Bio D mulsion Forte

A friend sent me this article on Vitamin D tonight, and I thought I'd share the link here:

I started taking D2 seven years ago. It did not raise my levels of D. When I switched to D3, I started with 2000 IU's and it also barely raised my vitamin D. After 1 year of taking 5,000 IU's, my D level was STILL too low!!! I need 11,000 IU's of vitamin D per day or sometimes I take 50,000 IUs per week.
My naturopath recommends a vitamin D level for people with cancer be between 80 and 90, higher than the median level.
