I have been lurking here for years because my mom had had two primary breast cancers and I have been gathering information for her. Now it's my turn. I am 55, two grown children, one husband, a new grand baby and two puppies. Found a lump and had it checked out Nov. 11. Immediate ultrasound, mam and biopsy. Call came yesterday for IDC, grade 2, about 19mm to 2 cm. MRI scheduled for next week and lumpectomy scheduled tentatively for the first week of December. At this point they are talking need for just radiation but I know that could change. Xanax prescribed but not yet picked up. I am in a new town and a new job without family close by for support. I move between anger and crying so it's probably time to go get the Xanax. I have learned a lot about this disease from reading the boards over the years so I guess that's a good thing.

    Waterdog it's good that u are familiar with the boards and aspects of this horrible disease, but please don't overthink it yet. It sounds like they are laying out all the planning and it might be rads, they usually don't say anything unless it's a very good chance, none of this is easy, trust u'r team of /drs. and get the Xanax filled--u don't need to be in anxiety stress. It will ease it at least. Of course good Luck--and tell us how it is going.

    Just cross one bridge at a time. That's enough. It's a scary time for sure, but don't make it more scary by thinking about all the 'what if's'. I know that's easier said than done, but really don't imagine all the 'what if's'. It doesn't help. Google doesn't help either, it just scares you.


    It is what it is. Just cross each bridge as it comes. That's scary enough! But just take comfort that nearly everyone is like me, had treatment and now over 5 years out, enjoying life and ......simply getting on with life & not coming back here too often.


    Even if you need chemo it's not as bad as you imagine & radiation?....is a walk in the park.


    You're in the worst possible place right now, but you'll soon be out the other side.

    Thanks for your comments and welcome. Picked up the Xanax, put a fire in the fireplace and I will get through the evening. This is a humbling experience, I must say.

    I agree that u should take one step at a time, it is SO overwhelming, you are in my prayers as ALL of US are. msphil(idc,stage2,0/3 nodes, L mast, chemo and rads and 5 yrs on Tamoxifen and now a 19yr Survivor(Praise GOD).
