BRCA2 and Triple Negative BC

I have the BRCA2 mutation and was diagnosed with Stage 2, Grade 3 IDC, Triple Negative BC in April this year. When I received my genetic testing results in September the geneticist said he was surprised that I was BRCA2 positive and not BRCA1 positive, as TNBC is most commonly associated with BRCA1. I've since been researching and can find very little information regarding BRCA2 and TNBC. My oncologist said I was incredibly unlucky as most likely this cancer is just a case of bad luck, and is not related to the gene mutation. If that is the case then I'm not only at increased risk of a recurrence (as TNBC relapse rates are higher than positive cancers) plus I'm also still at major risk of getting a cancer associated with the BRCA2 mutation..... Double whammy!! Has anyone else here with a BRCA2 mutation also have TNBC? Also, does anyone know if TNBC can be associated with BRCA2, or know where I can look for some more information? Thanks :))

TN is definitely more common with BRCA1 (70Ish%), and hormone+ with BRCA2 (80ish%) but more common obviously does not mean always. So yes, BRCA2+ can still have TN cancers, just as BRCA1+ can have hormone+ cancers.

Have you been to FORCE (Facing Our Risk Empowered)? It is a site & message boards for those with BRCA mutations or other high risk status/hereditary breast & ovarian cancer risk. Lots of information & support! There are many there who have had a cancer dx, so it is not just for previvors.

The stat I have read is 75% er+ or pr+ for brca2+. I cannot remember if they stratified her2neu out, but triple negative was the remainder or atleast the next biggest brca2+ group.

My friend, who is BRCA 1 positive, had a first diagnosis in one breast of inflammatory breast cancer which was hormone positive (don't know about the her2), and a later diagnosis in the other breast which was triple negative. So, the first diagnosis was, I guess, less probably from 70 percent chance of triple negative bc with brca1, and certainly the inflammatory breast cancer is just rare all around (that bad luck thing that you stated-lalala).

thanks Ballet12 & Kam170. After researching a lot it appears that the statistics quoted differ from country to country. This makes sense if the stats are developed based on research performed in that country, but I'm finding that is more often not the case. It's all highly confusing. I'm trying very hard to ignore the statistics and stay positive. It's bloody hard though. Grrrrr.
