Anyone else had any kind of reacurrance?

Options

Hello, I am a stage 111A breast cancer survivor. This is my first time here and would just like to get some insight. Up until yesterday I had been 2 1/2 years out being cancer free. about 3 months ago I had pointed out to my doctor a very small knot in my scarline of where I had my mastectomy. She seemed to think it was some fat necrosis and said we would watch it. after about a month it seemed a little bigger so went back in and she called in to do a biopsy. The biopsy came out fine and showed nothing. My doc had called and said that if I felt better about having the place taken out then we could do that. Of course I felt better about having it took out! Got the path report yesterday saying they did find a few malignant cells but very tiny. Now I have to go in for bone scan and MRI to see if by chance it is anywhere else. Has anyone else had any kind of reacurrance and now doing well? I am not so much scared as I am disappointed because i had thought I was past all of this. Just very troubling. :(

Hi and welcome. I am not in your situation but it sounds like your doctors are very responsive and thorough.

I hope your scans are clear.

I haven't had a recurrence, but it sounds like your surgeon simply didn't get all the cancer. Good that they're going back in to take care of it. I don't see why finding those tiny cells where your scar is would indicate metastasis. Best wishes!

I had a recurrence under my arm on the mastectomy side. It was 11 years after the mastectomy. I didn't have mets then, but now, 5 years later, I do.

hi, I haven't had a recurrence as far as I know.

however a woman I've heard in the group at my hospital did have a recurrence in the scar a couple of months after the Mx and had a revision. The comments in the group were that it can come back in the scar if the tumor isn't totally removed or bumps the skin edge on the way out.

Sounds like it was best it was found when you found it. All the best to you!

I sincerely hope nothing else is found. I'm being monitored for recurrence also and scans are in my near future starting Monday. I've lost my mind. I'm not able to be positive for my boyfriend or family at all. If I had a way to evaporate and never know my results and be done with life I would take it. This fate is not for me.

Hello Anne, Maria Snow and the other ladies

In case this helps, I had an ultrasound after I found lumps in my left breast recently (opposite side to mastectomy). Was very worried that the cancer had come back in the other side.

    Result?

    Scattered cysts!

Hoping for good results for you too!

    Best wishes

    Alice

I keep hearing stories over and over of survivors being told they have fat necrosis, but it is really cancer!

I am hearing you mariasnow! I am awaiting biopsy results with fat necrosis being the only option they have offered- I don't think that anyone has even mentioned cancer out loud!

The 1.5cm lesion is above the DIEP scar line, close by the original tumour site, within the pectoral muscle and not in a fatty area...?

I get the results of the core biopsy on Thursday. This scares me more than any test before as it means that what tx I've had has not worked to completely clear the cancer.

    Hi, Anne,

I'm really glad your doctor decided to check it! I have not had a recurrence that I know of - but it is a hot button for me when doctors don't check things because mine did not order my lump to be biopsied - he said it was not cancer - and in 7 month's time it turned out it was. Even though tests are scary, I would rather have them done to rule things out.

    All the best to you.

I'm grateful that mine came back as a lymphatic cyst. Super super scary! Feeling grateful!

I am sorry that we are all here to discuss recurrence. I hope one day we will all be cancer free and not live in fear.

How do they do a biopsy after a mastectomy? I have implants and don't know if I will gave to go under for them to do the biopsy or what. TIA

The surgeon was able to get in and remove the lump and not interfere with my implants at all. I'm very grateful. Now I have a big lump below my rib cage and I'm terrified it is liver mets. What will I ever do if it is? I don't know.
