Cycle? when is it going to return after chemo?

I am 10 months out of chemo and haven't had my cycle backI tried accuncture and excersie for the last 4 months, I am struggling with 20 extra pound and tried to diet to lose weight but it also didn't help. How long it took you to get your cycle back? Did you do anything that you would recommend? Have you had any signs that your cycle is coming or about to come? I am ER PR- and HER+ so I haven't had Tamoxifin..any thoughts or advices will be much appreciated
Cheers,
Abby -
I would ask your MO to do a check for Estradiol (Estrogen content) on your blood. For me it took 8 months to get back my period, then again another 3 months to get periods for the second time and since then it is trying to get back to regular schedule.
There is very low chance that your period is stopped for good, the estrogen content in your blood should tell you that. -
Hello, Abby!
Your topic is of interest to me as well, since I really hope to have my cycle back at a certain point. If you are comfortable with telling your age and the number of chemo rounds you had and eventually which "cocktail", it would be helpful...
I hope that you will get it back.
I'm 37 years old, just like you I'm ER/PR - and Her2 +, and currently I'm doing chemo: 4 rounds of AC. I was on my second day of cycle when I had my first round and after 10 days, I was bleeding again. I was not sure what to make of it and I documented myself. It appears chemo lowers the progesterone and the body takes that as a signal that it's time for a new cycle.
I really hope that this wasn't the last of periods of mine I've seen.
Also, I found a study - which I google now without being able to recall which words I used for the search - that mentions that a treatment including epirubicin has a higher probability of preserving menstruations. Also, there are women who have their period back after more than a year.
Hopefully other girls will answer as well!

I am 32 and had AC x 4 and taxol x 12. I also had Lupron shots during chemo. It took almost exactly a year from my last chemo for my period to return and I have had it three months straight - really good news since I would like to have children some day! Since my tumor was ER+/PR+, I am on tamoxifen and my MO presecribed me Zoladex to stop my periods at my last appointment a week ago. Back to menopause! -
SaturnRing,
I did the Estradiol test and my MO thought I should wait for couple of more months, she said there is 50% chance that I will not have my cycle back -
Stellina,
I am 37 years old, I had 6 cycles of Taxotere, Carboplatin and Herceptin (from oct 2, 2012 - Jan15, 2013) then continued with Herciptin until sep 2013 -
fd1,
Good luck! Hope all will go as you wish
Cheers -
Mine came back this summer. my last chemo was October. Then it skipped a month and now it comes every 19 days. and HEAVY to the point where I cannot leave the house some times. Ugh.
I stopped taking Tamoxifen in June. -
Mandala,
So you got it back in less than a year...I guess everyone is different. Have you checked with your MO about the heavy period? -
I had chemo when I was 37. My cycles stopped for 1 year and 8 months total coming back when I was 39. They still continue (sort of, since I'm now 41 and pregnant, so they are paused again, but for a better reason), but they have not been as regular. Before chemo, I was every 24 days like clockwork, they settled down after a while so that most of the time they are around 23-25 days, but I occasionally go long up to 35 days and occasionally super short - sometimes only two weeks!

thelorax,
Thank you and congratulations!!! 1 year and 8 months is a long time..were you taking Tamoxifen? I am ER/PR- so I am not on Tamoxifen -
Hi Abby20,
Thanks! It is still early, I am 10 weeks today - still in that nervous, will we make it through the first trimester time period.
The doctors thought I would most likely wind up permanently menopausal after chemo due to the types of treatments I had and my age. So it was a shock when I got my period. I've never been so happy to have my period!
I did take Tamoxifen for a year, which may have also delayed my cycles. I came off of it to try to get pregnant - we had taken fertility preservation steps before I started chemo, freezing some embryos and an ovary. My cycles started back up 3 months after I stopped the Tamoxifen.

thelorax,
Good luck, and fingers are tightly crossed for you..Hope all will be well. I have a littile boy and he is an absolute pleasure
Girls,
Guess what!!! I had my cycle todayNever been excited to have my period like today, I even through a party at my office..feels so awkward to have it after all this time
but I am super happy -
I'm 34 years old, had TCH, and I'm 18 months PFC. Still haven't had my cycle yet. The last time I had my cycle was the week I started chemo, which was 21 months ago. -
Christina,
I had TCH too but I am taking Tamoxifine. You probably haven't had your cycle because you are on Tamoxfine
