Found a painful lump in my left breast.

Not sure if I should be worried? I'm a bigger man and cysts have always been a problem for me. I get them pretty much everywhere. I can sort of roll the fatty tissue of my breast over this lump. The area isn't so painful I can't touch it or anything, it's just really tender and sensitive to the touch. The discomfort started a few days ago and has gotten no better, no worse. I just discovered the lump itself yesterday. All of this has happened shortly after a chest x-ray which makes me all the more suspicious.

Can anyone provide any insight? Thanks.

    Hi Beardly!

I can't really throw any light on the lump you have found. It is most likely something benign, but there is no way to know for sure, unless you go to the Doctor and follow up on it.

I haven't heard of anything like this being caused by having an xray.

I am sorry I can't be of more help. I wish you all the best and hope you'll let us know how you get on with it.

    Take care!

Don't hesitate, go to your doctor and seek advice.

On about August 1st of this year I found what I thought was a small cyst near my left nipple.  It turned out to be infiltrating ductal carcinoma. Thankfully, the tumor was small, but I had to undergo a mastectomy to eliminate the tumor.  In the end my cancer was stage 1a.  You didn't mention your age, I'm 67 and breast cancer in men is more prevalent at age 60 and higher. However, it is not uncommon in other age groups.

Don't risk waiting!  If it is a cyst, you've relived any fear, if it is a tumor you've likely discovered it at an early stage and can expect a positive result from treatment.

Go to a doctor to have it checked out.  If there is any dimpling or retractions then there is a high possibility of cancer.  Cycts or lypomas don't typically cause dimpling or retractions.  Only way to know for sure is to get it checked out.  Best of luck!

    tgadams,

You are absolutely doing the right thing in having it checked out! And chances are very good that it's not serious! But guys need to watch for these things too... It's NOT just a women's disease. Hang in there, and please come back and let us know how you are. I wish you the very best!

    Rose.

tgadams! I am so sorry you find yourself here, but this is a great place to get support and advice.

We all understand just how you are feeling fight now. The waiting for tests and results is brutal. We, as humans really don't do fear of the unknown very well.

The main thing to keep in your mind is that you are doing the right thing by following up on this and that the odds are definitely in your favor for this being something other than BC.

I wish you all the very best for the appointment tomorrow, and hope you'll let us know how you're getting on!

ultrasounds don't hurt, mammograms don't hurt, not getting checked HURTS., the earlier breast cancer is detected, the easier it is to get rid of.
