I am wondering what will happen during my first surgical appointment tomorrow. It's been a week since my diagnosis. I have gathered lots of information. Now I want to get to surgery but am afraid I will have another long period of waiting. This week of waiting for the first surgical appointment has seemed long. My emotions are making me feel like I am not myself.

Hi Sally. I was diagnosed Nov 1st and my first apt with the surgeon is this Wednesday

I hate all the waiting too. Especially waiting to check if it has spread.

Everyone says this is worst so we just

Gotta get through it I guess :(

    Hi Mommy 13,

I will be thinking of you on Wednesday and hoping that you don't experience long waits either.

Be sure your surgeon thoroughly explains what type of tumor/s you have and what that means. See if they have size, type, etc available yet or wont know til after your surgery. Be sure they explain what types of surgery options you have and what each means for further treatment and outcome. You might be good with lumpectomy and radiation or might need/want mastectomy. Be sure you feel comfortable with your surgeon and his explanations. Dont be afraid to get a 2d opinion of you want one. Read through articles (besides the discussion boards) on the bco.org site here, for information about what to ask/expect.

I too am waiting. I worked in medicine for 30 years. One of The first things I did was to get a notebook and date every appointment, with whom the day I called to get the appointment, phone numbers and have started writing it all down. I also got my iPhone out and made pictures of all my medication labels. The great thing about that is that I have the medications , dosages how to take it, who filled it and where and who wrote the prescription. Also going to write down all my allergies and take a picture of that too. This should also help my husband if he needs to know something. Keep recordsThat is going to be important.

    Hi ladies!

The waiting is terrible, and sometimes can be the worst part! You have some good advice on the main Breastcancer.org site on Waiting for Results from Surgery, including what to do when you get your results, and how to keep track of your records. Also, great info on Managing Breast Cancer Fears.

    Hope this helps!
