Just diagnosed Oct.28/2013, what now?
I'm 32 and was diagnosed with Breast Cancer that has spread to my lymph nodes. I have nothing else so far until this coming Wednesday with the surgeon. I'm obviously shocked as I have two very young children to take care of. So I can rest easy until wednesday I do have a question. I'm finding, I'm having pins and needles in my hands and lower thighs. It just started this week. Does that mean it spread?

Hi mama. Have you already had your surgery? If so, then the pins and needles could be from the surgery. If not, then it might just be that you are super aware of your body right now. A lot of people have said they felt strange pains and sensations at first and most of it turned out to be nothing.
Stress does crazy things to our minds and bodies. I was listening to an interview with a lady who wrote a book on how to prepare for surgery. She was talking about the influence our minds have on our bodies and said there was a study done where 1 group was given chemo and the other group was not (neither group knew who was getting chemo). Something like 30% of the people in the 'no chemo' group lost their hair! Isn't that amazing?
I would love to tell you to try to remain calm, but I know that's easier said then done. One thing my surgeon told me before my surgery was to think of breast cancer as a chronic disease that is highly treatable. I think what she was trying to convey to me was that while staging of the cancer is important for how it will be treated... we must realize that it is treatable and our prognosis for a long life is good!
Good luck on Wednesday and I hope you get some good news. -
Mama... I know you are in shock and it is so very fresh. Pins and needles mean nothing. And just so you know, cancer does not spread that quickly... One thing I learned going through the process is that it is a process. And every step of the process is an important one. Many many women have lymph node involvement, and it doesn't mean its horrible. Remember that the nodes are there to catch the cancer before it spreads to the rest of the body....
Its scary and can make you feel lonely and vulnerable, but trust me when I say you are in the hardest phase. It is a lot easier when you have had all of your tests and a game plan is made. Take the time to have all the proper tests, and then go forward. Be strong!!! -
i'm so sorry you were diagnosed with breast cancer. I think it is normal for all of us to wonder if every little thing we feel is a cancer spread but it is very unlikely. Hopefully you can keep busy until wednesday and try not to worry too much. Hang in there. This stuff is hard to deal with. Venting here helps many of us. -
I agree with the other posts. Once you have more information and have decided on a plan, you will feel better. If you've been given a diagnosis, then you must have already had a biopsy. Did you have a sentinel node biopsy of your lymph nodes as well? Did they give you a copy of the pathology report? If not, you can ask for it tomorrow. We may be able to help you understand it since we've all been in your shoes. There are lots of variables. Two women can have the same diagnosis of breast cancer but have completely different kinds with even more variables connected to each kind. Please stay in touch. -
I am 60 and extremely healthy....except for breast cancer! I was diagnosed on October 28 and am scheduled for a lumpectomy on November 11. Luckily it was found at a very early stage. I feel so discombobulated right now, but remain hopeful that all will be fine in short time. I hate how this news will affect my family, as, I am the "strong" one, always busy helping them all. I have only talked to my 2 best friends....this week, I tell the family. -
Zoly,
You don't have long to wait. That's great. What kind of breast cancer do you have?
