    Our cars needed replacing both times I was pregnant. Plus, with the first born we had just bought our house. When I was expecting our twins that car payment was more than the monthly payment on the house. One time after that, I mentioned getting a car and my husband looked at me and asked if I was expecting. Thank God I only had two pregnancies. We've been able to get over 14 years + out of the last two cars.

    I can't remember the last time I saw the word antimacassars!   I have a collection of my Grandmother's that I inherited from my Mother.  Mom always used them until she moved from the turn of the century family home to a modern appartment.  They looked out of place there and in the more modern homes DH and I have lived in.

    Yay Lisa!!! That's good news!!! Celebrating here for you......hanging with that stable boy is a really good thing.........I sure hope he hangs around for a long, long time. Love the lilies! That pond looks sooooo peaceful!


    I have found a new distraction.........doing jigsaws on the computer........now talk a bout a time waster!!! I can sit for hours doing them that's why I don't buy them anymore.......lol.....but somehow I just found them as a game on FB.........that'll teach me not to go browsing......hahahahaha!

    Lisa, I told you on FB but I'll say it again now--That's GREAT NEWS!! Love the word "stable" (and that boy too).


    What a horde of kids for trick-or-treating tonight. Each year I buy more candy than the year before and it all gets given out. The whole family came over and I made chili, salad, and also had dips and chips. Kids are so funny--one said to DD "you look just like Mrs. T.. from school." She said "Michael, I AM Mrs. T.. from school! I teach your class music." So many of our friends say they never have trick-or-treaters and I know why---they all come here! In caravans. Seriously, the cars line up as they come through this neighborhood, each car carrying several kids, and we all get cleaned out fast!


    Chrissy, you might need to share that FB app for the jigsaw puzzles!

    for some reason our area gets only a few trick or treaters. we go over to our son's house and mind his while they all go out with the kids..

    Trick or treating was never big in Australia but over the years it has taken off........not quite as big as the USA but becoming more and more in your face here. The shops decorate and have all things Halloween for sale and in some areas kids go out to trick or treat but it is more likely that the kids have a private party at home and have their friends overs. More for safety as still a lot of people don't get into it here.


    I remember some years ago when I was a Cub Scout leader I organised a Halloween den camp for my boys and for weeks before the event part of our craft time was spent creating their costumes. The week before our camp I went around the neighborhood and knocked on doors to explain what I was doing the following week and asked if the people would participate. Their were very few who did not.......lol.......and most of the 'oldies' had a ball handing out candy to the boys. Needless to say the cub scouts also had a ball and it became a regular thing at Halloween to have our 'spookie camp' and go trick or treating.

    No trick or treaters here, sadly most kids just go to a few certain streets these days that are blocked off for traffic. It is safer I am sure. I miss the days of making costumes and all the excitement.


    chrissy, the spookie camp sounds like a lot of fun.


    lisa, happy the stable boy is still by your side.


    I do my jigsaw puzzles by hand, good hand therapy for my achy fingers, but scrabble is best played against a computer. I have also started playing cribbage with a friend. We both have trouble with the counting but that makes it fun and exercises our brains.


    My DD and I are still cleaning out the shop and since we will be moving some stuff upstairs it has shifted into the house also. So lots of memories being looked at and decided if worth keeping or not. Makes the cleaning out a bit slower but more meaningful.


    My aunt is receiving an award today for "the Spirit of the Vineyard" for 2013 for her volunteerism. She will turn 99 next month. So quite a bit of family is here and we will be doing some celebrating. A fun day.

    Mac --Isn't that wonderful for your aunt.  99 and still going.

    To all: can't remember if I posted this. Remember when I tried to find info on the gene testing for Chrissy when she had her problem with Coumadin/warfarin. That was then and now is a new part of the story. My docs 2/3 have become proactive in testing through Genelex for 2D6, 2C9. 2C19, and the VROCKI(sic). I first turned her(PCP) and my MO, and therapist onto it in 2010. Who knew my research found the only company in the world that not only tests, but applies it to meds, and has back up pharmacist support. What a wonder. Many test, but don't do what Genelex does.

    Anyways about 2 months ago I went --DUH-- I haven't been tested. I was tested. I didn't know they tested for the Vrocki(sic) gene along with the other three. Low and behold I carry an aberrant Vrocki gene. If I were to receive Coumadin/warfarin it has to be modified in dose. Just as Chrissy. I looked at the report in amazement. I know without having to go through a complication as Chrissy did. In the report it said  "1 of 15 admissions in the USA is due to complications of Coumadin therapy".

    LindaN told me that in the NY, NJ, and one other state surrounding her it's now a requirement for testing for this gene before starting Coumadin therapy. DUH-----what's driving that is money-------complications cost money. SO, wish it was b/c patient care was driving the activism.

    It was a great celebration. Lots of people showed up. My aunt got a little overwhelmed, But recovered. It was great sharing time with family.


    Now I am the one who is exhausted.

    Hi Sas. The info re Coumadin/warfarin was very interesting. I'm not on coumadin but it's certainly something to file away should my husband or I ever need it.


    Okay, Chrissy. I found several jigsaw apps and you're right. Time just wastes away. They're totally addictive and I apparently am very prone to addiction!


    Hope everyone in the US enjoys that extra hour of sleep!

    Yo Sas!! Great information.......you sure are a wonder at digging out the unusual!! It's not usual to do the testing here but I think it should be as it sure would have been a much better thing than spending those two weeks in hospital. Thanks for your hard work.


    Lol Kathy........I must have the addictive personality as well as once I start on them it's really hard to stop! I even use my own photographs and convert them to jigsaw as I go through the ones supplied way too quickly!.......lol. I think the secret for me is to put my self on a time limit per day.........hahahaha! Just like I used to restrict the television for the kids when they were little as I believed they needed to do other things as well........for me, I think I need to do some house work!


    Nancy how special for you Aunt to be recognized like that and what a fabulous reason for a family get together! Take it easy now and rest up.......hopefully your aunt is doing the same.

    Aly, I hear you have another chest infection.........not good girl! What were you doing letting yourself get so run down an infection could get a foot hold? Hope those anti B's do the trick and get you better fast! Rest and take it easy and don't try doing too much too soon or you'll end up with pneumonia again.

    Hi Kathindc--hope things are good with you.


    Of all things, the weather prediction is saying maybe snow next week. Now I've lived in NC my whole life and never have I seen snow before January at the earliest so I'll believe this when I see it. If there's even a hint of snow in the forecast here, grocery shelves immediately get stripped of bread and milk because we all get hysterical at the thought of not being able to get out of our driveways. No Southerner can drive on snow, and those who try end up in ditches. We shall see.

    I had to laugh at the Southerners in the snow. Judging by the driving, I think a lot of them moved to Seattle. My BIL, who grew up in Alaska, warned us not to try to drive in the snow here. He said it's not cold enough to be powdery and is extremely slick. Doesn't help that some of the downtown hills are 17% grade. So DH, who also learned to drive in Alaska, does all the snow driving. We mainly encounter it around the end of Dec. or early Jan. when we're trying to visit DS & family in Oregon.

    No snow here just heat! The last few days have been really hot and just a taste of what's to come.......yuk! Thank goodness a cool change came through last light and today is just perfect.......it's a shame that it can't stay this way........lol.


    I always wonder how you drive on snow at all! It just seems so scary to me.


    I have been asked to enter a few of my photographs of Burra and surrounds into the next exhibition at the local Art Gallery. I now have the job of going through them all and choosing which ones I think will interest the visitors and maybe loosen their purse strings as I will be offering them for sale to recover the cost of entering them in the first place. I will be printing them at A4 size (8 x 10) and matted but the framing I will leave to the prospective purchaser.


    There are so many to get through I'd best get to it as they have to be at the Gallery by the 19th.

    Have been a good girl and not done anything again today other than making macaroni cheese for dinner. This bug has really hit me again, really makes me cross. I was meant to be going to a meeting tomorrow but I am not venturing out.

    Lisa I just love those little Sandpipers! They are so cute and fast when they are running around! We don't get them here in Aus so I was very please to see a lot of them when I was over there........so many things seen and appreciated.


    Aly, yes they will be shown in the Gallery just up the road and the exhibition that follows is a textile one so have been asked to exhibit my silk lace knitting in that so there is loads to keep me out of trouble for quite some time........lol.

    Awe thanks Lisa.........I look around at what is being shown in other Gallery's and think mine is so mundane in comparison but I have some of my photographs hanging in my dinning room and I always get asked where I got them so I guess they will pass muster at the exhibition........I'm hoping anyway.......lol.

    Hi girls! I'm having a very relaxing weekend, how about you? I have finally finished going through my photographs and have chosen a few that I will print and then I will chose the final few to be exhibited. Phew!! what a job that has been! I think I was beginning to go cross eyed!...lol.


    Think for a change of scenery I will go and bake something........I feel like something sweet as a treat for all my hard work......hahahaha!......any excuse will do.
