Detroit area PS recommendations
I'm looking to get some good PS recommendations in the Detroit area. I have an HMO, and there are limited PS who participate. I've already had my exchange from TE's to silicone implants, and my PS is not happy with the outcome. I'm looking to get a second opinion about trying to have another imlant surgery vs. flap surgery.
If you love your Detroit area PS...please share his/her name here! I'm hoping some of the names will participate with my insurance.

She does DIEP flap. I called the office and they were helpful but not what I was looking for. Not sure about insurance coverage. It doesn't hurt to call.

tamiami,
Just now seeing this. I can't remember if we already talked about this, but I would highly recommend my PS. Dr. Meininger. Somerset Plastic Surgery in Troy. Feel free to PM me with any questions. -
Thanks Dulcigirl~
Deborah recommended him for a second opinion as well. He isn't listed on my insurance plan, but I'll call his office anyway. Sometimes the office will take the insurance anyway. I did get a second opinion with a Dr. Sherbert in West Bloomfield. He thinks he can salvage these implants by removing all the extra skin and creating more scar tissue (for lack of better wording) underneath. It sounds good, but I still have my doubts. I'm just dreading the thought of a long flap surgery and recovery...I'd rather have implants. -
Best wishes to you! Dr. M. is very good at what he does and he is also funny when appropriate and serious/sensitive when appropriate. He teased me about my lists of questions, but let me ask all of them. ;-)
His office staff has been great, too. I hope they can work with your insurance. -
Thanks again! -
If you would consider going to Ann Arbor, Dr. Wilkins was awesome at U of M. I started my reconstruction there with him but moved to Chicago after my exchange surgery. I was very happy with my results. He did a great job. -
Thanks mgd...my insurance doesn't cover U of M. -
isn't that amazing??? Our previous insurance (MI plan) was not accepted at UofM either!! Seemed crazy to me. -
I know I keep saying that this Dr. or this hospital doesn't accept my insurance, and I'm sure it sounds like I'm complaining but I'm definitely not! I have purchased my own insurance for the past 32 years and this is the best insurance ever...no copays and no deductibles! This entire cancer journey has cost me NOTHING! I do need to stay within a network of Dr.'s and hospitals, but I'm ok with that for the amazing coverage. I'm going to call Dr. Meinninger's office on Monday...wish me luck! -
That is great!!
I definitely do wish you luck. I thought about calling them today and telling them to please say yes. Lol. -
Awwww...so sweet! I'll keep you posted! -
Has anyone gone to Karmanos for surgery or reconstruction? I have a consultation with a surgical oncologist an plastic surgeon in 3 weeks. Anyone gone there?
I have also met with Dr. Wilkinson at U of M , nice guy. Very competent, he still may be a contender. We'll see ...the more info the better in my opinion. -
Has anyone used Dr. Melek Kayser?
