5 years
It was 5 years ago this weekend that I was searching madly in bookstores for information about breast cancer. After having the lump discovered in my annual PCP appointment and having an ultrasound, I was scheduled for a biopsy. I just knew it was not going to be good news, and I spent the weekend before making myself completely crazy.... sure enough, on October 29 I did get the call--- I will always remember the kind radiologist who said, at the biopsy, "I am pretty sure this is something, but I am also cure that it is early and very treatable".
She was also the one who first used the "chemo" word when she called me with my dx. I was freaked out at the time, but so glad she had later, because when we decided on chemo, I had had time to absorb it.
I was dx before Halloween, had my lumpectomy surgery in Thanksgiving week and started chemo right after the new year. As bad as it all felt, it went fairly well overall.
I am in the last 6 months of my AI--and I am going off--no matter what!! My hair is as full as it was before, and I generally feel great. I know that 5 years out offers no real guarantee, but I choose to think that it is a huge milestone!!!!
I don't think about bc too much and I sleep well knowing I picked the best treatments available at the time for me. So Happy Anniversary to me (and to KerryMac!!!)
