Is ovarian cancer connected to breast cancer?

Only in some cases. Certain genetic mutations like in BRCA increase risk of both, but having had BC or being at high risk for BC does not necessarily mean you are high risk for OC. For example, while I am high risk for BC at 40% due to family history and peronal factors, I am not considered at high risk of OC looking at the same factors so am average risk (<2%). Possibly much lower due to other lifestyle factors. If you are concerned about your risk, you can talk to a genetics expert.

I do know people, mostly BRCA+, who get OC screening if they are high risk, including CA-125 bloodwork, but it is accepted that reliability on it for early detection is not ideal. It's more like "better than nothing" until they are ready for an oopherectomy. They usually also get regular TransVaginal Ultrasounds & pelvic exams.

For those at average risk, there is no real screening guidelines. You should be aware of the sneaky symptoms of OC, of your body, and if something is not right push for testing. OC is often only found at later stages as it so sneaky.

I was told that BC doubled your chance of getting ovca - however take that with a grain of salt. I believe the average person has a 2% risk and I think ours is 4%.

I just asked about screening, unfortunately there is no effective screening - I do get trans vag ultrasounds every 6 months to watch the ovaries and the uterus (due to being on tamox)
