29 and just diagnosed

Hi jlarry, so sorry about your dx. I was dx'd with DCIS on April 5th and after my lumpectomy (on June 5th) the pathology showed that I had IDC as well. I ended up having to have a mastectomy six weeks later on July 23rd.  I know you are scared and waiting for test results is the hardest thing to do. It is very normal to still be sore after a biopsy. I developed a hematoma that was the size of a walnut after one of mine. You can take Tylenol to ease your pain and discomfort from the biopsy. It's hard to know what to do or think until you have the pathology report back. It's an agonizing wait, I know. Try to keep yourself busy and keep in touch with others on this discussion board. You will find a wealth of information here and women that are very very compassionate. I am happy to answer any questions that you have if I can. And if not, I am here to listen and support you.

Hey there, huge hugs and I hope you feel better soon. I had surgical biopsy (needle phobia, and my surgeon realized it would not be a good time for either one of us ) and didn't hurt.

You have a right to be scared. I was diagnosed with DCIS on September 13. My first thought was "how is this going to affect my kids?" I wasn't worried about myself, I was worried about them. Although I haven't been on this journey for long I can say that kids are very resilliant. They understand and process more then we think they do. We were upfront and honest with both of our girls (ages 7 and 10) and let them ask all the questions they wanted. I had surgery on October 17 and they have been a huge help. I found they do better when allowed to help. It makes them feel good. It is a hard road, but in my opinion if you are honest with your kids (depending on ages) it helps them get trough. My mom bought my girls a book called Butterfly Kisses, that explains from a child's point of view what is happening as His mother goes through cancer treatment. It's a great book! Well wishes to you! I had a friend tell me that a scar is a reminder of a battle you WON and that has helped me get through some of my roughest days.
