IDC HER2+ 1cm Gr 2 2nd tumor being biopsied - Chemo??

1st tumor is just over 1 cm I found it scratching after taking off a new bra!


Second tumor is 5mm so really small and found on MRI


Being scheduled for surgery in 2 weeks for lumpectomy. Meet with surgeon yesterday. She thinks that even if second tumor (in same breast) is cancer too - no chemo is indicated.


Not sure I agree...Seems that 1 cm is the start of sizes where chemo is recommended. MD wants to do a very large lumpectomy to get both tumors, radiation and arimidex (i think that is the correct name)...I cannot have tamoxifin because I have had a few blood clots.


I have had cervical cancer and had a desmoids tumor (very rare) and squamous cell skin cancer.


I am 55 years old and just feel like maybe I should have chemo. Not looking for medical advice, but sure would LOVE your input. I am so confused and feel like I am in a vortex of appts, biopsy's and confusion. finding this board is a lifeline and I thank you all for your time and help.

    I would get a second opinion. Did they consider doing an oncotype test? That may provide more information. If you want to see the treatment guidelines, you can see them on the NCCN website.

    Dear Buzymom3- I was recently diagnosed with IDC with a 1cm tumor. I'm meeting with surgeon tomorrow to make arrangements for surg. I'm having a problem with a simple lumpectomy. I feel if I have it now then just take the breast off. My cancer team tells me that with either surgery I have to undergo Chemo AND radiation. A total of 6 months treatment. I hope this helps. Let me know h=your thoughts on a masectomey vs lumpectomy.
