Absolutely vicious and small-minded.  Natty... you've often walked around the edges of good taste and sensitivity, but this time you've gone way too far.  Shame on you.

    Natty, that was truly revolting.

That was pretty vicious and quite cruel, but more than anything a sad reflection on the capacity of a person for such cruelty. Since I have been very public about the course of my disease, it has in fact been stage IV without a single symptom from the beginning. Additionally, that dx was two years ago and I have not progressed at all and the one bone met that I had is necrotic. A combination of good health habits, conventional treatment and probably good luck are what I attribute to my current situation.I'm very happy with two years of NED and a pretty much normal life. Your comment is just about a step short of taking delight in my disease. I may not support self dx or the choices others make but I wish them all the best. No re-thinking needed!

Peggy and Selena, both of you have provided great explanations of cancer. If you don't mind, I might steal some of what you each wrote to include in my own posts next time this topic comes up.

Caryn, may your good health continue! (((Hugs!)))

Somebody PMed me while I was away. Yes, I had my root canals removed. My two docs (including onc) supported it so most was covered by insurance. So glad I got those dead teeth out of my mouth!

    Beesie,

Thank you. It was very sad to see someone make a cruel comment like that. I don't believe, even with other intermittent sniping, I've ever seen someone almost happy about the state of another's members bc. Happily, the overwhelming majority of members would never stoop that low. It's more a commentary on the poster's state of mind than anything. Time to leave this bit of unpleasantness behind!

    Caryn,

When I saw Natty's first post, I was shocked. I missed her follow-up one which must have been even more disgusting, but unfortunately, it's not the first (and likely not the last) from her. It's a pattern for Natty (or whatever username she's using at the moment), unfortunately, which gives the alt health board such a bad rap here on BCO. I do feel sorry for her, she must have so much anger to lash out like that at someone completely innocent and I hope she gets help before she hurts anyone else. And this is a virtual board...imagine having to confront someone like that in person! I have always respected your comments here, and you have always been extremely open to hearing many different opinions and views without resorting to those types of underhanded and low insults.

One thing I did want to point out to everyone: as this is a public board, be very, very careful what you post on here about your private medical situation. As you have just seen, there are unfortunately individuals on the boards who will exploit you for what it's worth. I learned a long time ago never to put in personal identifying information, i.e. where I live, my personal circumstances, even for me, my personal diagnosis. As you see, it just takes one malicious member to exploit that information.

    digger,

Thanks for your support. I'm not too worried about being exploited by a clearly unhappy person and I believe that she is not representative of the vast majority of members. I will continue to leave my dx line public because I believe it helps those with similar dx find find support and hope. Let's put this matter to rest.

Abigail, that is why it is good that mods delete such posts.

You know, there is a big difference between passionate disagreement over treatment/ self dx and virtually rejoicing in someone's stage IV dx. Yes, many of us are passionate about our respective views and that can become heated. But to relish someone else's advanced stage goes beyond the pale of human decency. Regardless of my opinions, I hope with all of my heart that we all do well and thrive.

Just found out that my younger dd read natty's post prior to it's removal. My dd is a bco member and has found this site helpful as she deals with the reality of my bc. We are extremely close and she was really upset by the post. It really makes me mad to know that someone's thoughtless and cruel post hurt my child. BTW, she's the beautiful bride in my avatar, but still my baby.
