Do you use any kind of nut milks? Is fruit OK or do you count that as sugar?

I quite often make pancakes (American-style ones) from buckwheat flour, rolled oats, nuts, berries, baking powder, egg and kefir. I do not add any sugar or syrup, but I put in a big spoon of cinnamon, which for me tricks my brain into thinking I am eating something sweet. You could easily make it with almond milk instead of the kefir.

Since you live in my homeland, you have access to really good wholegrain rye breads. A slice of that, toasted and with a fried or scrambled egg makes a good breakfast.

I make my own bread and have found tons of good recipes using rye, whole wheat, buckwheat, oat, barley and corn flour.  I love nuts and berries, which I am always happy to eat for breakfast.

Oh, I wanted to add something. A friend of mine has MS and has tried various dietary approaches to controlling her disease. This also involved cutting white carbs, sugar, dairy etc. She simply started eating breakfasts consisting of non-traditional breakfast foods. Poached chicken and a salad, or avocado with rye bread etc. In the middle east it is common to eat things like olives and tomatoes in the morning. In Egypt, a standard breakfast is "ful," which is basically thick porridge made from split yellow peas (gule ærter), chick peas or horse beans, then topped with sliced chilis, parsley, olive oil and other condiments. It is filling, nourishing and tasty.

I started doing this breakfast about a week ago and I really like it:

About five chunk of pineapple, one small apple - sliced, a few mixed berries, a kiwi, a few baby carrots, a handful salad greens, some broccoli sprouts, 5 almonds and 5 hazelnut and a few drops of lemon juice. Put all that in a blender with water, blend it up and finish. I really like the taste of my drink and am looking forward to it every morning.

I, also, like Japanese miso soup for breakfast.  I drink it from a mug... like coffee.

Ham and egg omelette with chopped onion and fresh herbs. You could cook it in olive oil, rather than butter, to avoid dairy. I made an omelette for dinner the other night and served it on a bed of spaghetti squash to up the vegetable quotient. It was delicious!

The main Breastcancer.org site includes a recipe for a Purple Power Breakfast Shake that might be a good choice for you.

i've been juicing for breakfast. My fav is a bunch of kale, some parsley, half a cucumber, 1/4 pineapple and a handful of strawberries. So yummy!! Then, a few hours later...around 10ish, I have some Ezekiel bread toast. No dairy, flour or sugar!! (Oh! That makes enough juice for DH, too.)

It's very important not to replace carbs with animal proteins. There is a direct link between animal protein and breast cancers. This is the key message of the dietary program at my cancer center. Replace them with higher quality carbs, fats, or less-toxic sugars.

Hi Maria, can you be more specific? Are you suggesting to minimize intake of red meat? I make chicken and pork broth quite often, I do not eat the meat though. My nurse says I should eat some lean protein especially during chemo.

    Thanks!

break two eggs into a small custard cup.  Next 3 to 6 chard leaves washed and a couple of garlic cloves. Chop the garlic (and can add the chopped chard stem) and saute gently in 1T peppery olive oil.  chop the chard and add with about a t or 2 of lemon juice and about a tablespoon of chcken or other stock.  Or just water. When the chard starts to wilt, make a nest and slip in the egg or eggs.  Cover and poach until done to your taste.  I then add some grated parmesan or other bolder cheese, but since no dairy could add a few hot pepper shakes.  good with whole grain toast rubbed with garlic and a little olive oil..
