21 yo - Just diagnosed with IDC stage 2a
My name is Elayna. I am 21 years old. I was just told I have Invasive Ductal Carcinoma stage 2a.
Anyone else have experience with this? Have my first real appointment since being told this afternoon and am pretty nervous. They mentioned wanting to "shrink" it before a lumpsectomy. Anyone do this?
Thanks, still soaking all this in...

So sorry for the diagnosis and at such a young age. Many hugs. You are younger than my own daughters.
I had a 3cm tumor and did chemo first to shrink the tumor. It worked and I only had 5mm of tumor left at surgery. Now in radiation to complete the treatments.
Just listen to all your options and make a decision in your best interest.
Blessings!!! -
Thank you for your response.
How did your treatments work? Were the IV? How long & frequent were they?
I hope you do not take offense, but did you loose any hair? Did you feel okay after?

Also, how was your surgery done? -
eartman, I was also 2a and had chemo prior to my lumpectomy to shrink my tumor which was between 4cm and 5cm. After chemo it was less than 2cm. I did dose dense A/C and then Taxol, 8 treatments over 16 weeks. The treatments were though an IV, and yes, I did lose my hair. I got lots of cute hats and a few wigs, and 18 months later I pretty much have my old hair back. After chemo I did surgery, followed by radiation. I kept working through most of my treatments, and while I was more tired than usual I never really felt sick.
I noticed that you also started another thread about having radiation to shrink your tumor prior to surgery. I have never heard of this technique, and it's surprising to me because I know the general advice is not to operate on radiated tissue unless it's absolutely necessary. Perhaps someone else will be along that has more experience in this area?
I am so sorry you are going through this at such a young age...stick with this support group and we will all help you through! -
I should clarify it is chemo I am doing not radiation. I miswrote.
Okay. Thanks for the response. It was didscussed, yes. May I ask why your treatments were so spread out? Were they very long? Yours is exactly like mine. 2a - 4 cm. I do not know what is best. I feel like I was loaded with info and lost.
I found a lot of people doing the same thing. -
i have idc stage 1, never had surgery yet nor any treatment. In my case i think all the process will gonna start after i have the conference with all my provider. As of now I'm keeping my fingers crossed and spreading the positivity not just in myself but also the people that surrounds me. God bless us all.
