BanR- be careful what you read on the internet! There is lots of outdated info on there which does nothing but scare us! Chemo is almost always recommended for TN because it DOES respond well to chemo. Of course, there are no guarantees. Did your reading say what subtypes?

I have TN breast cancer that was resistant to TAC and is partially resistant to carbo/Gemzar. Of course there are some types of bc that are chemo-resistant, and not just TN. Someday maybe cancer research will advance to the point where docs can identify resistant subtypes, but right now they are not there.

TifJ- apparently there are 7 subtypes and some of them are chemo resistant, one of them is basal type 2 whereas basal type 1 is highly chemo sensitive. Now that my surgery is done and chemo begins in a few days, i really would never know what is the chemo drug exactly doing inside! it might just end up killing all the healthy cells while the cancer cells ( just in case they are chemo resistant) will keep circulating around.

stride- hows your health now? i understand that your tnbc has spread to lungs and few other organs. how are they treating you? do keep us posted.

(The current edition of CURE magazine has an article on TNBC and discusses some of the newer chemo drugs being used and being developed as well as the direction current research is taking)

    Hi there,

I am one for whom chemo didn't work - I has neo-adjuvant chemo (before surgery) and regular MRI's. There was little / no response - even to Taxol. So they withdrew after 4 rounds of chemo. I have Basal TN BC. I am now 4 years out from my first diagnosis and two years from my second diagnosis in opposite breast. I am beginning to feel that I am going to be OK. I had a bilateral following my second diagnosis and so far so good. I have to admit, I read the stuff on the internet and convinced myself that an 'incomplete pathological response' meant that I was on my way out! But I am still very much here and feel fine. Long may it continue.

    Hi Karen,

I appreciate your post very much! I have TN and am in the midst do neoadjuvant treatment with new questions of its effectiveness. I had four dose dense AC treatments two weeks apart and just completed my 4th of 12 weekly Taxol treatments. I'm scheduled for a MRI on 12/9. My thoughts went to dark places of poor outcomes at first, so hearing you are well, is wonderful! I wish you continued good health!

all the very best Kathy, do keep us posted about the scan and surgery results

.. and how are you doing these days Karen and winnieg and tifj and stride? and what about you encyclias? the article whose link you sent was very informative. I believe some 82 trials are going on and few of them are in their last stages.

I have completed my second round of dose dense AC, 2 more to go which will be followed by 4 DD taxol.

AC is harsh, in one word...

Long journey, lets hold hands and move ahead.

BanR- sorry AC is being such a beast for you. I did not have AC- I had taxotere and Cytoxan. It was rough, but manageable. I am over 3 years out now and doing well. Thanks for asking and hang in there!
