Does Good Cholesterol Increase Breast Cancer Risk?

High levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL), also known as the "good cholesterol," are thought to protect against heart disease. However, what’s good for one disease may not be good for another. High levels of HDL have also been linked to increased breast cancer risks and to enhanced cancer aggressiveness in animal experiments.

Oh geez! But this might be why some uber healthy women get BC. Needs further validation, of course.

Geesh, my high "good cholesterol" is about the only I have going for me and it turns out I even can't brag about that any more.

You are not alone!  Mine is 112 and continues to creep up along with my LDL.....  This has me concerned because of course it will take years to figure out let alone possibly treat for this finding - if it is a genetic issue.

Apparently being alive increases my risk of breast cancer. And being a woman too increases my risk. Everytime I see these kind of studies, I just wonder, where is the cure?

Geez. What next? I don't qualify for any of the healthy things they say to do in order to prevent BC or a recurrence of because I already do/did (or in this case have) them. "Frown Face"

At my check-ups, after listing all my health problems - high BP, bc, poor eye sight, arthritis - my doctor will smile and say "but your cholesterol is exemplary".  Now we find out that is a health problem, too.  I am so mad about this, I am going to walk right past the broccoli and spinach in the produce section, check product labels for cholesterol levels and pick those with the highest - maybe starting with ice cream, cupcakes and pie. ;)

This is really crazy. Excercize is supposed to raise HDL and lower rates of breast cancer. There must be a missing link somewhere.

I'm another one with HDL over 100. Sometimes you just can't win!

I think I'll go have a glass of wine. Wait.... red wine increases HDL, doesn't it? Well, too bad about that, I'm having it anyway. At least I'll have a healthy heart!

Oh I don't know.......I kinda feel better knowing I have another risk factor. My only other being I didn't have a child before I turned 30(my poor teenage son. He's stuck with parents with grey hair :-b. )What to do about it. Probably nada(both my gray hair & HDL). I think at this point 'heart disease' is more likely to get me than BC.
