Hugs
So there I was in the pharmacy filling my letrozole script and as I handed the script to the young girl behind the counter, she burst into weeping tears. Not knowing what to say or do, I asked if she needed a hug and she nodded her head. So I reached over and gave her a nice, warm, long hug.... I'd like to think she felt better afterwards. I know I did. I feel whole again. Time to pay my emotional strength forward. Anyone else hug a stranger lately? I highly recommend it...

A couple of weeks ago I walked into our local fruit and veg store and started chatting to the lass behind the counter as she served me............it turned out that her sister had just been dx stage IV liver cancer but before that fully was divulged, I could see she was very near tears so I asked her if I could give her a hug. She came out from behind the counter and we hugged for a couple of minutes.........that's when she told me about the news they had just received about her sister. I know she felt better when I eventually left and so did I. -
One should never underestimate the power of a hug, pat on the back, even a smile or a friendly 'hello'. You might be THE bright light for someone having a rough time. -
Great! Hugs all around.

That's why we need the smileys back.....they are virtual hugs......(hint, hint) -
Hint received, thanks ruthbru! -
How did you get that smiley face on there??????? (question face emotion) -
It's amazing what a virtual or real hug can do. I had a similar experience at work last week. The ties that bind.. smiley face...I just realized they were gone!! -
I'm so glad to hear of other stranger hugging experiences. Please feel free to hug someone and share the experience here! Thanks! -
ruthbru, I saved one of the old smiley faces as a .jpg in Photobucket, and inserted it as a picture.
😃 This one is from a standard Mac font, and I just pasted it in. The techs are working on getting emoticons back though! -
I hugged one of my new neighbors yesterday
she is suffering from diverticular disease...
she started to cry.
Damn i had that surgery and that poor thing is suffering..
Gave her some probiotics too.I felt sooo good and so did she.
yeah pay it forward... -
awesome! -
well I hugged my pal today who got me to go to a lawyer to see if I qualify for stuff, seems the lawyer thinks I can get workman's comp
who would have known but she got a hug -
I think we're all feeling brighter with all these hugs! I'm going to start snooping around to find huggable people! I high fived someone today. That also brought a smile to both our faces! -
* I took the end of someone's class so she could leave a little early to visit her mother
* I took the play director's practice after school so she could go to a meeting that she really wanted to attend -
Great thread VR.... -
Love this thread...
Earlier this week I hugged an elderly male neighbor I've known for 15 years, but have never hugged. He has Stage IV prostate cancer now, and when I told him I was praying for him, he hugged me back tightly and said he always prays for me, too.
Then today my contractor hugged me (we are in the process of rebuilding our home which suffered severe damage from a flood two months ago) after I shared with him how the stress the project (and probably chemo brain, which I didn't share with him) has made it really difficult for me to make the decisions he needs from us, and how I was close to tears yesterday from the stress of it all.
Sometimes there's nothing like a hug to communicate that you really care...
