Pinktober
I expressed to my friends and family how much I don't like Pinktober and most of them get annoyed with me. Alot of people believe i you catch it early you are cured. I want to hide fore the rest of the month, people keep asking me why I am not wearing pink. Frustrating.

Trust me...you are not alone! One time someone asked if I wanted to donate to breast cancer....my reply "no thank you, I already donated my breasts". I could not help myself...it was the end of October and I was just DONE with pinktober. You should have seen the look on the poor cashier's face when I said that....priceless. People don't get that there is NO cure.

I used to notice all the pink products before, now I really notice them! Pink ribbons on a box of breakfast cereal that's not healthy for you is one of my peeves. My sweet neighbor brought me alot of pink things when I was first diagnosed. It was very, very thoughtful but I've given most of them away. I don't need anymore reminders, I get a reminder everytime I look in the mirror or take AIs.

I got a call from some group collecting money for cancer yesterday. I tried to interrupt the woman as she was reading her "script", but she kept talking right over me. When she finally shut up, I told her kindly that I was currently paying my own medical bills for cancer and to please remove me from her call list. She actually hung up on me. These groups really need to train their callers to have some manners. I was not impressed. Hate October even more after that call.

I only donate to the research hospital near me and to our local breast cancer support group. I hear you about the the pink ribbons on junk food, ridiculous. I used to love October, not so much now.

mdg - my dh says something similar when asked to contribute to some pink cause or another - he just smiles sweetly and says, "No, my wife already gave till it hurt." Bayou - I've also gotten similar calls from pink charities I've never heard of, and they are rude and persistent. Grrrrrr.
I give to BCO and to our local BC group that provides services to low income women who need mammos and to those who have been dx with BC. -
Well, to help keep things in perspective, I saw an ad announcing that October is also "Orthodontic Awareness Month," is case we didn't realize that Orthodontists existed (or that we had crooked teeth as kids???)
We're aware!
